Factory XM LOW volume....any fixes yet?
« on: April 22, 2012, 01:45:16 PM »

I know its been brought up before, just wondering if anyone came up with a solution other than scrap it and go with another source. Cutting into harness and splicing boostaroo or something? I've never updated stereo, not sure if firmware fix ever came out for it.

I have an '11 and it has no volume issues.  If you've got an '08 and have never updated the radio, it's probably not the most current version of the software.

Thanks for the suggestions, but my mac cannot write to 8 or less. Lowest is like 16 and radio can't read it and gets hung up on verifying dsp image. Tried windows using bootcamp and nero burner, but still same thing with superdrive only writes 16 and up. Off to dealer one day to have them do it :(

Went to dealer, most recent disc they had was an 07 update. Said they'd call and get new one. Found a friend with an antique cd burner and made disc at low speed. Performed update successfully, but still XM volume is lower than CD or Aux input :(

Not the cheapest fix but have you considered upgrading your amplifiers(s) and or speakers?  XM will still not match FM or CD but at least you'll get the volume you want.  I have the J&M amps and speakers in the SERG at the XM is plenty loud though still not equal to the other sources.

I upgraded to hawg-wired double shot and amp. Just wanted something balanced though. Initially had gain setup for Aux, then realized XM was low. Took fairing off turned gain up. Now have volume turned half up for Aux and CD, 3/4 for XM. Just wish I could equalize it somehow. Doesn't look like it will happen. Shouldn't have to turn way up or down just to switch audio source. But I guess thats the way it goes...  :nixweiss:

Same here so I feel your pain.  Still love XM though!

On my car I had a line out volume so I could turn it up to be the same as radio and CD. I was just thinking that if maybe I could locate which wires were the audio output to the head unit from the XM module, then splice a headphone jack plug into a boostaroo do another jack at the other end, plug the whole rig together, I could finally even it out. But its probable just easier to crank it up and turn it down between sources I guess, just crappy that it has to be done. If my bike didn't come with the XM unit and I knew of this issue I'd have gone with the 665 probably.
