Here you get the Sportster flop unless you lower the front.

BTW, if the old wheel is a 19" and you want to get rid of it, let me know....

Since your bike is already an inch lowered in the rear, a 23" front will definitely have an impact (and IMO, not a good one) on handling just from the height difference, not to mention the width of the tire, and height of the sidewall on the tire.

On top of all that, if you ride the bike loaded up for touring, or for two up riding, you'd better take a long hard look at the load rating for the tire.  Kind of critical.

My personal opinion is that if the bike is used for anything other than a bar hopper or show bike, a 23" is just too much.  Even a 21" is too much, IMO.  I know at least a couple of people who have gone to a 21" wheel/tire on the front and either wished they had not done so, or ended up with a 19".

Also, you'd need a different fender.

I don't think it's a good idea either.  These bikes are designed and engineered for a certain combination of parts.  I wouldn't make such a drastic change to the suspension if it were mine.  As Terry stated there are lots of criticle things to consider.  Mostly safety.

If you do it right you can still ride a 23" wheel the same as stock. Its got to be racked to get the ride back right not just slap a rim on it and be done with it.

I agree with the "If done right" comment. Sure the ride and feel will be different with the tire change.

I prefer the turn in of a 21" over a 18"/16" (never had a 19" on the front). I started looking into the 23" for my new bike. I'll add the 23" with a tree change but I won't cut the frame. The fender is minor, keeping the crash bars is a must. Weight rating is a good point as noted however there is more to that than just a number (I needed to know this for another bike and received lots of info from the manufacture).

I have a 21 on the front of mine and I like it, but I would not go any larger with
all the stock components (frame and trees). It will change the way the bike handles.
Some people don't like change and that's ok. I like the fact that my bike now dives
into a turn quicker than before and at 75 to 80 on the interstate I feel no difference
in stability. At 100 mph the front end does feel lighter and more sensitive to input
from the bars than before.

If you go bigger than a stock 19 incher your handling WILL change. The question is
are you willing to cope with the change to get the look you want?
