Wheel Bearing Remover and Installer Tool
« on: April 25, 2012, 12:14:38 PM »

I've got to tackle the rear bearings and was shell shocked by the price of the Harley Tool #94134-09.  After a little research, I found that this is the JIMS #939, which runs about the same.  I did a little searching for a used one, or at least a better deal, and stumbled on a Pit Posse VT102 which I've seen a few positive reviews on. It retails for $115 and the best price I'm seeing is $89 shipped.

Does anyone have any experience with this tool.  Looks to be an exact copy of the HD/JIMS tool, but I'm worried about the quality. Seems like a heck of a deal though.

Any thoughts?

I just used the tool from Pit Posse. It worked without a problem. The instructions are bad so I downloaded the ones for Harley bearing replacement. The wording is the same but there is an illustration showing the correct parts to use. The tools look identical to Harley's.

I ended up getting the JIMS instructions sheet too, and while the Harley version copies most of it, the JIMS version is a little more detailed, and has better Illustrations. Both versions say to always do the left side first for the fronts, irregardless if there is one or two rotors.  On the rear, you always do the right side first. Seeing I'm only doing the rear, I guess I can't mess it up (I hope).

I got a couple of requests for the instruction sheets, so here you go.  I've attached the following:

HD #94134-09
JIMS #939
Pit Posse #VT102

Between the three, it starts to make sense.   :2vrolijk_21:

BTW - I just rec'd the VT102 and it looks very much like the parts pictured in the JIMS doc's. I'll report back on how it goes, but seems to be a real bargain.

Enjoy.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&vxp=mtr&item=200753594409

Looks like he sold out this lot, but just keep tabs. He has a new lot around once a month or so.

I do need to mention that when I used the tool for the first time, when torqueing the expander dowel to 95 ft/lbs, the 1" wheel bearing puller cracked the inside bearing race, and deformed itself to the point it destroyed itself and the dowel. I called and got a complete new kit in replacement. However, I have not tried it again.  I'm not sure if the bearing was the issue or the tool, but I wonder about the hardening of this kit.  Imho, next time I'll try going with 80 ft/lbs and see if that's enough to secure the bearing.

I know it is an old thread... but wanted to chime in to say that you can still get it for the 89.95 and free shipping via Amazon...

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005SUX9MI?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages00

I hope it works as described... comparing this to the Jims there are a few parts (like the nice bearing) that the Pit Posse tools does not have... but then again 90.00 vs 300+
