Almost lost a bag!
« on: April 26, 2012, 06:13:44 AM »

UNREAL!  know telling how long this was off.  Bags wear on for 4 months so it's not like I just put them on.

You can see how the locking device was rubbing against the bolt.

What a mess this could have been.

I am buying some black zip ties to help secure the bag.

The ConV's have a infamous history of bags coming loose and falling off on the road.  MoCo is very aware but has done nothing, should be a safety recall.  It happened to me during a group ride, fortunately no one was hurt and other riders and cars were able to avoid my bag torpedo.  I have used black cable ties ever since.

Glad to hear you saw it before it fell off.  These bags are darened expensive!

Check out Brukus...they have a product that will prevent this.  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=60689.0

I installed their solution on my bike in November.  While it's a bummer to have to use a tool to take off the bags; knowing they are more secure is reassuring.  So for about 35 bucks you can put this behind you.

I have used black cable ties when putting on my bags every time, since I saw one fly off during a group ride.

install one around the lever and it is almost invisible.    Almost nothing in cost, can't see it and secure.   :orange:

I will post a picture if desired.

The Brukus product does not work with the ConV's quick disconnect system.  I wish they made one that did, I would buy it.

Ah, sorry to hear that.  Hope the zip ties work well.

Here is a picture of the zip tie on bag.    note that the tie goes around the lever the flips down.  It would be imposable for the bag to come off as long as the tie stays.

The picture was made with the head of the tie on top so you could see it.   If you put the head on the bottom it is very hard to see,  unless you really look for it.

I will send 2 pictures in a row.

If you notice my second picture the lever never disengaged.  Notice how the lever was rubbing on the mounting stud.  The thing just popped off. thats why I circled and put the arrow in there pointing to show how the metal lever was rubbing against the mounting stud and judging by how much metal was wore it was like that for awhile.

Is there a chance that you didn't get it put on the mount all the way? I can't see how one end could pop off without the other end coming off at the same time, not doubting you it just doesn't look possible.
