Ruined new CVO
« on: April 30, 2012, 10:27:45 AM »

So Saturday April 21 2012 I was riding to meet my group for a meeting. it was a nice sunny day about 65 degrees no wind and no water was on the road as it had not rained in about 3 days. I was riding north on a straight road I wanted to open her up a bit, When I topped her out I was doing around 90 to 100 and then I let off the throttle. I thought no problem right. then as I got down to about 80 I started to get the wind buffeting which I have gotten before  . No big problem I have gotten that before I just slow down and it goes away, well as I slowed down it got worse for a wind buffeting to a wobble   . I did what I had been taught and use the engine to slow down and not the breaks, but it just got worse over the course of a mile it got so bad that I could do nothing to save the bike and knew I was going down so I was able to point the bike towards the shoulder and next thing I know I am getting up off the ground after loosing it at around 50-60 MPH I am lucky all I have are some road rash and a concussion from where I hit my head thank god for Harley's new hybrid half shell, and the grass that I was able to point the bike at.

Man, that sucks big time.  Glad you're going to be OK.

This all happened in a straight line?  So much for the virtues of that new frame. ::)

Glad to see that you're typing this and not someone else typing about losing a friend. Heal up quick (sounds like you're on the way already) and post up pix of the new ride.

Glad you're still here to write about it... Wishing you a full and speedy recovery.

I have to ask though, is this a common occurrence with the new frames?

WOW, glad to hear your alright, the bike can be replaced!!  Are you sure that was from wind buffeting?  I had a 2010 CVO Ultra and I never had a wind buffeting problem and the only time i felt any wobble in the front end was slowing down riding handless around 20mph.  Since then I went back to a RG, no buffeting there either?  Sure you didn't have a bearing problem or something more than what you mentioned?  I never heard anything like this ever?  Glad your OK, but if everything is as you described, I would have that sucker pulled apart and looked at!

Glad you are OK....strange way for this to happen.....I agree--maybe a bearing that was on its way out and was helped along by the high speed.

Wishing you a speedy recovery

Very sorry to read this but happy that you are alright!  Good luck with the new SERG!  Keep the shiny side up.   :2vrolijk_21:

As awkward as it might feel the best way to straighten up a wobble is to add power, that normaly fixes it. Of course the backside is that if it does not you might crash at a higher speed.

Glad that you are okay.
