Lost the left passenger floorboard last week sometime...
« on: April 30, 2012, 02:53:48 PM »

Deedee and I were planning to ride the Santa Cruz Mountains this past weekend.  I pulled the bike down to the end of the driveway and was happily wiping er down so it'd shine real nice.  That's when I found all the hardware aside from the stem attaching the left passenger floorboard to the bike is missing.  I ride almost every day, so it's difficult to discern when it came off in retrospect.

Most of all, I hope it didn't damage anyone’s car when it came off.  I can't recall when it was, but I do recall hearing someone honk their horn at one time or another last week.  Generally, I don't pay much attention to those things unless I know it involves me.  This time it must have and I missed the opportunity to retrieve it.  Provided it was possible.  I ride on a lot of freeway and there's no way I'm stopping unless I absolutely have to when on those roads.

Well, I call my local stealer and for around $640.00, they ordered the replacement parts for just that one floorboard, pan and mounting hardware.  We were simply amazed at how much they are charging for just a few parts!  If we didn't have plans to travel to Parkfield with the group this coming weekend, I'd have shopped around a little more.  But we had to get this stuff quickly, so I paid an extr $40.00 to expedite shipment.  It will be in by Wednesday.  The total for parts was $600.00. (Ouch!)

You can see in the pic below, my bike is the '07 Ultra CVO that had the Stealth Collection floorboards that came with it.

Does anyone know if this pricing is out of line with expectations or not?   Feels like gouging to me...  :furious2:

Ouch is right!

A friend of mine bought a 2009 SERG and couldn't believe it only had pegs for the BSR... He looked into purchasing the same floorboards as yours and when he found out the price decided to pass.  The price you quoted seems high though.

http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524448765460&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374305050403&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374305050403&locale=en_US&bmUID=1335815454645&bmLocale=en_US

This is just for the inserts and you require the whole bracket, but surely it can't be worth that much???  :nixweiss:

I imagine that price is for a set???

It is gouging, but that's to be expected with Harley.

Follow this link and check the prices for the various parts you needed.  I did a quick tally of MSRP prices and came up with maybe $500 not including the bracket that actually bolts to the frame (I think you said that was still there?).

Gouging to be expected, that's for sure.  Esp. with CVO.  Scuffed one of my fairing lowers on the curb, out of curiosity asked dealer what the cost would be to replace it.  750?   For bare lower without boxes etc.  Unbelievable.  500 plus for one footboard assy.?  Outrageous.

They think if we buy a cvo we are made of money.

If it makes you feel better, after those parts slid down the freeway at 70 mph, they wouldn't have looked like anything you want on your scoot anyway....

Acutally the floorboards are "Ironsides", which are same price as the "Stealth". It took five parts to get an entire assmbly.

Thanks for the input...the "Loctite" is on my shopping list!  I'd already decided to do that asap!

Sadly the MoCo has not made a kit out these parts yet, an that is why the individual pieces are required.
Be thankful your not going to a Canadian dealer, as you could easy add another 30% on top of that.

That's just a Harley marking its territory.  When you ride around Sturgis, I swear you can almost build a complete bike with all the parts from the side of the road by the end of the week.

Just for fun.  When was the last time that you had the bike serviced at the dealer?

Only asking because they typically remove the left side passenger footboard to pour and check the primary fluid.

Actually, I had the oil changed and all the fluids checked at Ironhorse Motor Company in Freemont about two months ago.  I didn't realize they had to remove the left floorboard to do it!  Hummmmmmm.
