Calaveras Reservoir Eagles
« on: May 02, 2012, 04:53:54 PM »

Discovered these Bald Eagles nesting on a high voltage tower here on a ride a couple of years ago. My little Canon Power Shot camera can't reach to do a god picture.  Put the lens up to somebody's spotting scope and they're visible but not a good quality.

Two chicks in the nest.

One of the bird watchers stated that there are only about three sets of Bald Eagles in the Bay Area.
This is on Calaveras Rd between Milpitas and Sunol (Hwy-680).  Due to Dam construction during the week must go the Milpitas side. Road is open all the way on weekends though.

Take a good set of binoculars or a scope to see the chicks.

I got approval from a photographer with a very nice camera and lens if I could copy one of his photos from their www.connongnoc.com website.

The Bald Eagle is awesome, good pics of the chicks. They are trying to make a come back in the area according to reports. JC I think you are right he should go back today or tommorow and see how big the chicks are.

Very nice!  We have two pair nesting on Watts Bar Lake in TN.  I have had one land on the roof of my neighbors dock to fish more than once.

Brought me back to last fall in Tofino, Vancouver Island. Took a whale watching trip and saw a few pairs of Bald Eagles. Majestic. By the way, the road to Tofino from Victoria is a beautiful riding road. Bring a rain suit though, it is rain forest. Only a few construction zones. Really the road less travelled, complete with Bald Eagles and mountain lions too. I only had a rental car but would rent a Harley if I was back. I saw a few dealers there. Shipping my bike from Florida would not be practical.

I did get pulled over for going 20 kms/hour over the speed limit (90 km zone, I was doing about 109) (55 mph, doing 67 mph). Cop told me that speed he impounds the car for 5 days. He let me go as I was polite and on vacation.  Seems like BC is very strict with speed laws.

Very cool pictures!
