HD Reach Seat on a FLHXSE3 - its possible
« on: May 05, 2012, 06:44:07 PM »

 :jalapeno: :jalapeno:
I purchased on spec an HD Reach seat (part number 52619-08A) (its got a good seat cut out for us short axx riders) on eBay a few weeks ago.
Wasn't sure if it would fit or not but I took a gamble.
Well today I took off the solo HD seat and fitted the Reach seat.
And guess what    It fits perfectly.
No need to remove the crome bumber strips on the rear fender and the rear fitting lines up perfectly with the threaded hole for attaching the saddle to the rear of the fender.
I will put a piece of material I think under the front nose of the saddle, just to protect the rear of the tank and the illuminated CVO centre console.
This Reach Saddle has a cut out for an HD riders back rest. So the next thing I will be trying is to see if the back rest support and back rest which I took off my 2007 Road King Custom will fit under the saddle and attach to the two bolts that the solo saddle normally attaches itself to.
I'll post up here once I have tried this out.
 :jalapeno: :jalapeno:
And a few pictures of my Grey and Black with the saddle. One can never have too many pics of a Grey and Black  :jalapeno:

If the back rest works I am going to be so pleased.

By the way I got this saddle for £40 (thats about $60. I think thats a very serious bargain. I was the only person bidding on it.   :jalapeno: :jalapeno:

Oh and here is a few pics of the bike at Whitton St Georges Day Parade a few weeks ago. Road was closed to traffic so we could ride lidless. Fabulous day, Fabulous bike.

Glad to see the seat worked out for you.  :2vrolijk_21:

Just wondering... Are helmets optional in the U.K.?   :nixweiss:

I have the same seat on my SESG and I added the adjustable driver bike rest.  I then sent it off to a guy called Alligator Bob that tore the foam out, added a pro pad for comfort and then covered it in Italian leather and buffalo hide.  It is the best seat I ever owned  :2vrolijk_21:.  The backrest that came with your mc for the BSR can still be used with this seat and it looks real nice.  ::)

Peter, if your old backrest mount doesn't fit, I have a non-adjustable one that I bought last year for Buster that will. I'm not using it and never will, and you can have it for the shipping if you need it. Happy to help a brother.

PM me if you're interested.

Absolutely, Dante is right... I'm sure many (including me) would love to see some closeups of the custom leather seat!  :2vrolijk_21:

Alligator Bob (a member here too) is a first class guy & does outstanding work as well.
Bob had done 3 seats for myself & made all the difference in the world!
Post some pics of your saddle if you could.

I am only using the Reach Saddle for long journeys were i require the support of a riders back rest. Generally though I'll be using the CVO saddle that came with my ride. I personally have no issues with the HD Solo saddle. Just wish I could fit a back test to it that's all.
I'll try out my old back rest support fitting next weekend and see if it fits under the Reach saddle.
Ride safe all.

I'm pretty sure a backrest off an 07 will not work. They changed the frame in 09 and redesigned the backrests and mounts.
It's worth a try though since you alreay have it.

Post 2008 tourers use mount bracket 52589-09A for the back rest.
Amazing what one can learn from the internet.

Ken. I think the postage charges from the States to the Uk would be expensive plus possible tax and duty charges added. I can get the part from HD in the uk for a reasonable amount. Thanks for your generous offer though.
