Focal KRX2 with crossovers in the fairing, PPI 600.2 amp fits with zero room to spare. Waiting on my Focal KRC's to show up for the lowers. Ill be working on the saddlebag lids and speaker install tonight. Ill update as i go. For now Just the fairing setup is literally 10x the system appose to the stock setup. Very loud and clear. Dakota Digitals are pretty neat gauge as well.

Sweet setup. Did you have shave the gauge cups or did the amp fit with no mods?

First I've seen of that PPI amp but looks like a solid performer. Any idea of current draw?
According to the specs it's fused at 50 amps (2 x 25a), I wonder how much real-world current it uses?

What amp are you going to use to drive the lid speakers and where did you decide to mount it?

That is an impressive collection of gear! Is there any potential to negatively impact handling, given the weight of the components and their placement relative to the steering head?

Shindo, I gotta keep the tach bro, this thing will have to be put back to stock to make way for a 2013 if you know what I mean.

LoneWolfPack. The amp does fit with out trimming the gauge mounts. But I mean their is zero tolerance when it comes time to put the outer fairing on. To close for comfort for some, Maybe, should a guy trim them rings? use your own discretion. I decided not to cause this thing will have to be put back to stock some day.

TIF2. I was a little concerned about the amount of draw myself. I don't have a clue as to how much it is drawing either. I know 8 years ago or so, the last time I ran a ppi product, there amps back then were definitely power hogs but that was loaded right down, squeezing everything it had in it to run subs. A capacitor came to mind but where do you find one small enough for a bike and where do you mount the thing? I do have another PPI amp for the lowers speaker and the lid speakers. I am not sure where i'm going to mount it yet, but i'm definitely looking out side the box on this one.

The weight gain will be in the 6.5 mids but we are talking ounces. Plus my race tech suspension upgrade in the front will handle it. LOL

My concern is with added mass of the speakers, which are placed a significant distance from the steering axis. They may be made of some exotic lightweight material, but they appear massive!

Under normal circumstances you probably wouldn’t notice any difference with a few extra pounds of weight; it’s when the $hit hits the fan that a few pounds of additional weight, in a less than ideal location, can become a real problem.

The additional mass and increased inertia of the heavier speakers, placed that far away from the steering axis, may make the difference between being able to recover from a destabilizing event, resulting in an oscillation (wobble), or taking a tumble. This becomes a much bigger deal as loads increase when speeds approach triple digits.

Consider the weight that already sits under the batwing fairing, and its impact on handling, not so much the ride. It might not be a bad idea to have some sense for any change to the weight and its location inside the fairing with this kind of modification. jmho

IMO, the aftermarket head unit is lighter than stock, so there may also be some offset.  I have not noticed any handling difference.  I can say that when I had an ultra with an amp mounted under my tour pack, i did get wobble.

Here is a few more. Plans been foiled for the second amp placement. Fits perfect in this location, you cant even recognize it unless you really look. But its too close for comfort with the front fender.

Never thought about mounting anything on the front like that -- love this website!  What about water intrusion though?

I definitely studied the negative effects it would have from mounting the amp in this location. In my case i am just a evenings and weekend rider so the riding in the rain factor does not exist for this fella. My biggest concern is tagging a nasty ass pot hole. Then she'd be by by front fender.

Not sure I would do that position ...

Heat from the front pipe and cylinder would probably be an issue. Not to mention you're blocking air-flow from the same cylinders that are already SMOKIN' hot.
Props for the ingenuity .... thumbs down on real world use.

I doubt that setup would last more than 30 mins on the road ... but that just my opinion

After running this system for a season with out any issues. It's time to upgrade again. Going to be installing the following.

Cycle sounds double up lids
2 jl audio hd600/4 amps
Undecided on 6x9's either focal, jbl or jl

Will keep posted as this comes to life.

Good luck with the saddle bag speakers. Be careful when choosing.  I used a focal 5x7 that wasn't bridged with the tweeter and they leaked. I see that there are some mfrs that do 6x9s.     I have a pair of new 5x7s. Coming from Hybrid Audio.  I don't want to give up any more space than I have to.

I Hear you brother! I also ran the focal 5x7 in these factory harley lids and have zero complaints with them. Then again I've have never been caught out in the rain with this setup either but I can see how damage can quickly occur.  I'm just a day/evening/weekend rider or else a system like what i am going for may be a little much for a guy looking to pack a little gear along for the ride etc. Just having fun being fast N loud!
