Installing a fairing mount kit for GPS, Questions.....
« on: May 06, 2012, 07:41:05 PM »

After much thought and research here on the site I have decided to buy a Roadtech 660 for my 2011 CVO Streetglide and mount it to the inner fairing. I have a few questions after reading the installation instructions.

1) The instructions mention getting power from a 29B connector located near the headlight, is this the best option and is it applicable on a 2011 CVO streetglide? I know the harness is different than a stock SG, just looking to confirm. Is there a better option? I currently have the HD hidden power antenna hooked up to the cigarette lighter.

2) The instructions also mention using a "multiple accessory harness" for power to connector 29B if it's in use, is it?

3) Do I need to buy the 3.5mm audio cable to install in the radio's front aux port? ( I may send it out down the road to Iron Cross for a rear port) if so.. how long of a cable will work and what type of ends should I use, 90's on both sides?

Any other installation tips?

Thanks in advance!!
Erich

Not sure where 29B is, am thinking its one of the two wires near the headlight harness. They have two connectors with right angles at the end and I think one of them is capped and red. That one is positive and would be used for lighted windshield trim or fender tip or something. You could use that for power. I ran the aux to the rear of my radio, but I installed a 665 on a friend's limited. I ran the female audio jack from the gps harness out through the handlebar grommet thingy on the right side of the bike. Loosened the inner fairing cap screws and squeezed it through. Zip-tied it to the bar right where it came out so its out of sight. He ordered a 6" male/male 90/90degree patch cable from Amazon for a couple bucks. It ended up being the perfect length for him.

Installed the fairing mount kit today and have the 660 resting in it. Taking my time I knocked it out an hour or so. The drilling wasn't bad but I was a bit nervous, no problem. The 3.5MM Aux cable came with the mounting kit and the 29B connection was right off the headlight harness as described for powering up the GPS.  :2vrolijk_21:

East Cost,

Now that you have completed the fairing mount installation, do you see a way of successfully installing it without the template?  I purchased my fairing mount from a user off the forum and being used, did not include the template.  Any suggestions?

I think it would be best to have the template. You drill the first hole through the inside of the inner fairing out towards the front. I can send you the one I have if you like? Email me an address and I'll mail it to you,  when your done send it back.

Scan it in if you can - be a heck of a lot quicker.

Drilling those holes does make you nervous though!
