I agree , glad rider is OK but I don't understand the thought that cameras prevent accidents.....There were cameras there but the accident still occurred. Cameras like police officers just document the fact that the accident occurred.
Cheap fix for many intersection accidents is to make all 4 ways go red for a few seconds before letting any light turn red. This allows intersection to clear. I know the jurisdiction and camera companies wouldn't make money  that way though.
We need to get people to treat driving as operating deadly force and needs our full attention...put down the cellphones etc. Until they develop full auto pilot with accident avoidance technology.

We call them red light ATM's.

From the start of the video to impact is 5 seconds. Who knows how long before the video starts. There are 5 lanes of traffic that are stopped in the opposite direction.

Nothing would have prevented this bozo from running that light.
The red light cams are there to get the people who speed up or run the yellow. They just happen to also catch the idiots that have no clue the light is red.

One lucky rider, and why the punishment should be appropriately higher when impact motorcycles, bicycles, peds etc.

I agree, People should be held accountable for the injury and damage that they cause and just maybe they would pay attention to what they are doing.
We all make mistakes but total disregard for what you are doing at the risk of others safety is inexcusable!

Actually I feel the opposite.  The easier they make it to drive, the less thought goes into driving.  A car that parks itself?  really, how ridiculous.  Now when someone backs into your car they are going to blame the car.  Just like the Audi's lurching forward when put in the gear, the runaway Toyota's, its the driver, stupid. I think they should ban automatic transmissions...  drunk drivers would be reduced, small children couldn't do it, can't talk on the phone and drink coffee, would have to think about braking hard.
Just my thoughts and I'm usually opposite of everyone else.

We are in agreement skreminegul07 .

My intent for that section was to vent about people not treating driving seriously enough and that they need to stop "driving while distracted" because the results of driving that way can be deadly. The part about auto pilot was in jest somewhat to mean that those "numbnuts" who won't treat driving as a life threatening activity should stop driving (take a bus or train)  until technology catches up with their brainless mode of travel. Unfortunately we can't stop the march of technology.
I'm sure all of the old school folks have been fighting technology throughout time. I bet the early men who walked everywhere ridiculed the first horseman who had his horse break it's leg or the horse riders who joked about the first buggy wheel that fell off. I bet the horse people didn't like the first all mechanical bikes and cars too.
I like your idea about manual shifting it does keep brain engaged more and ties up both feet and hands most of the time, especially in city driving.

Bets ya a dollar the red light runner was either texting or talking on cell phone, more than likely texting......  My prayers are out to the MC rider that he has a quick recovery,   I hope he has good health insurance and understanding employer to deal with all time of he needs to recover...

I'd bet my last dollar your right! Thats why she refused to talk to the media. She did something stupid, hope she learned and wont do it again.

X2

Red lights DO turn red at ALL intersection points in Texas, then the opposing lane gets a green.  People who run red lights are running the caution AND the red light.  Red light cameras work.  Just because the police don't personally see a crime committed does not mean there is not a crime.  Just my opinion and my opinion only!  Never in 50 years have I gotten a ticket for running a red light! of course I have been a motorcycle rider for 35 of those years.
