mbon, I purchased a set of those type of nipple covers at my local Harbor Freight. They are inexpensive and the set has a variety of sizes for other uses. I also have to change one or two on the top of the S&S carb on my 95 Heritage. If you don't have a Harbor Freight near to you look online. CAHDBIKER

Look for a captive cap like the one in the photo attached.  I'd guess you can still find them in auto parts stores, or on the internet.

I went to O'Rielys Auto Parts store and bought 5/32" Vacuum Caps and cut it in half because it was to long. It fits great and is much nicer than the OEM. The only way it will fall off is if someone steals it. They come in packs of two for $2 and some change.

I replaced mine once. I put a tiny bit of sillicone on it. I never knew my 04 to have one.   :nixweiss:

I like others have lost that rubber nipple thing.

May I suggest what I have done and I am sure everyone has these laying around.

The black rubber nipple from a "bunggie cord"!!!! Fit, Finish, and super tight and has not

come off for 3 years now.

Good Luck and Ride Safe,

IF the fitting is completely clean and dry when the rubber nipple is installed, I've had no issues with nipples coming off bleeder valves.  I also expel as much air from the nipple as possible as I install it (squeeze it together, start it on the end of the fitting, then press it down completely).  Even if I bump it, it doesn't go anywhere.  The same applies to the nipples on brake bleeder fittings btw.  Clean off the brake fluid residue with alcohol or brake cleaner and let it dry completely before installing the nipple.  I've never had one fall off yet.

It's the cover for the hydraulic clutch bleeder screw/valve. It's purpose is to keep dirt/debris/moisture from getting into that valve and possible letting fluid out/air in. Is it something you have to have... I've seen many w/o them... for me I feel better with having it... guess it's going to be what your comfort level allows.

BTW - Here is the P/N & Description - 43817-02 Harley-Davidson CAP, BLEEDER SCREW $2.85

I would think something could be found cheaper at a hardware store that would work just as good.

Gary, I agree with the first part of explanation but not sure about the the second part about possibly letting fluid out/air in. As you know I'm a Caterpillar mechanic and the bleeders we have on machines never have a cover to stay on. Never seen oil come out unless bleeder is loose. Usually debree gets packed in hole of bleeder and have to remove bleeder to get it out or replace them. On my scooter I never get near any mud and as clean as we keep our bikes I wouldn't fore see any problems with protective cover off the bleeder. My 05 came off years ago and never had any issues, however, on my 12 bike I have been careful to keep it on and thats just because I'm anal about things like that on a new bike. If it falls off I won't lose sleep over it. ;D

Mine fell off a long time ago (the bleeder cover, I mean). It's only there to keep dirt out of the bleeder valve. If you have fluid coming out, you have big problems.
The only place around here I could find "rubber nipples" was at the local Starship Enterprises adult toy store... and they were WAY TOO BIG...  :vrolijk27:

I know I'm late to this thread, but as I was washing the bike the other day it reminded me.

After riding the bike down to Texas, I took her in for an oil change.  Started to ask if they had a charge for washing the bike, but before I could even get the words out, they said that they always do a 'courtesy' wash if requested.   So... seeing how I had 4,200 miles of bugs and grime all over her, I agreed that it wouldn't be as detailed as I would take care to do, but still it would be better than nothing.

When I picked it up the next day, I was doing my inspection and noticed the nipple cap was missing.  I got ahold of the service tech and explained that while I've never had it come off during a wash cycle, others had.  He went back inside and found the guy that cleaned the bike and they looked all around for it with no luck.

They looked at me kinda puzzled like, asking what is it for?  I wanted to prove that I wasn't messing with them and we went inside the showroom to where they had all the CVOs (not many) and we noticed not a one of them had this cap.  None of them had ever seen this cap on any of the 110's and even asked their parts guy, while getting the same puzzled look.

Okay, short story got way too long.

As an alternative to trying to track down the actual part... I simply took the end cap off of one of my bungee cord hooks that wasn't in use(which happened to be white) and used it thinking I'd replace it when I got back to Alaska.  It was a little snug getting it on, but it eventually seated really nice, and it's barely visible against the chrome.

Just a thought.   8)
