naitram and mungam's rainfest for ribfest
« on: May 15, 2012, 06:50:05 PM »

we left in the rain last tue. morning headed for ribfest. our plan was to put down more then 1/2 the miles on tue. and finish up on wed.

so much for plans....

early in the day i lost audio from the GPS to the head unit. we made an extended lunch stop to try and wait out the rain but it just wouldn't end we rode for a while longer and called it a day only 360 miles into our trip only  making from MA to part way through PA.

wed. morning we waited out some think fog and again set out in rain. the weather slowly improved as we continued our way through PA and we found some sun as we continued through MD and WV. by mid day we were able to shed or rain gear and roll on the throttle to try and make up some ground, we knew it would be an 800+ mile day if were were going to make it all the way to lake barkley. as we crossed into KY it was starting to look like we might just make it. we pulled in at 8pm and found some of the crew in the parking lot waiting with cold  :drink:.

mungam had wanted to make a run into AL while we were in the area so thur. we headed south into AL and turned back north for Nashville to pick up Mrs naitram at the airport for her fly-n-ride  ;D, a lunch stop at a DDD joint and back to lake barkley for the night.

fri. was rib day and i never left the lake, knowing the forecast we talked about leaving sat. instead of sun. as planned but decided to leave sun. as planned.

that was a mistake...

we left in the rain sun the only good news was i had audio back from the zumo. with our original plan of almost 1200 miles in 2 days looking unlikely we set a goal of 400 miles, it was a long wet day but we made it into WV and called it a night. about 1/2 way through the day i lost cruise control.

mon. we had some breaks in the weather but mostly another rainy day, cruise control was working so that was a plus. about 300 miles into the day i had a close call with an 18 wheeler and the visibilty was getting worse by the mile. we stretched out another 100 miles and called it quits. got cleaned up and called my boss to let him know i'd be a day late getting back.

tue. we left in more heavy rain and low visibility. once again i lost audio part way into the day a couple of small breaks in the weather but it never really dried out until the last 20 miles.

have downloaded form camera or GPS yet but i'd guess at least 50% of the total miles on this trip were in the rain.

I feel for you.  not much worse than that kind of ride in the rain.  Weather here in Mass has really been terrible past few weeks.

SSSUUUUCCCKKKKKSSSSSSS!!!!!  Rained on my Fly Fishing trip one day last week making the rivers muddy and high. Your trip made mine sound like a lazy day on the beach in Hawaii. Thanks for cheering me up.

Glad you made it home safe and sound.

Hey, it's part of the adventure!  Just think how boring of a story you'd have if it was sunny and 72* the whole way!  I mean, would that be one to tell 20 years from now?! :P

On a serious note, glad you guys made it to and from safely!  18-wheelers are the reason I trailer most times.  :soapbox:  Good to see both you and Steve again.

The riding in the rain part definately sucks, all the gremlins you were dealing with most likely the rain getting into places it's not supposed to. On the way down for me I rode thru PA,MD,WV before the rain stopped. On the way back to the wedding I had that boring 72 deg and sunny stuff. I'm glad to hear your back safe though........................ Neal, which DDD joint did you stop at ?...........................Fuzz
