V & H Monster Rounds
« on: May 21, 2012, 09:56:39 PM »

I can only take so much grief from my fellow riders about my bike sounding like a BMW.
So I put in my order for a pair of slip on's today.

Once delivered I will get some photos up on the site of them fitted.

"Monster Rounds" aren't loud either, if loud is what you where going for.
Especially if you leave the stock header on with the cat in it.

Peter,

The vance & Hines HO Mufflers sound deep. Not overloud but a good sound just the same. You will need to change out the headpipe especially if you want to fit a decent tuner to the bike. Bosch sensors  for my Thundermax Autotuner are 18mm. I think the standard head pipe is 14mm.

I have this set up at present on my bike but just in the process of changing the head pipe again to X Pipe and chanaging the Mufflers to Vance & Hines HO In  Black.

+1 I have the same setup and just returned from a 1200 mile roadtrip. Someone told me they would get a little louder as you break them in. Sure enough I noticed after 1st full day of riding they did. Sounds great though!!!

Hrm, well I disagree with some of the people replying to this. Monster rounds are far from quiet... I have a pair, are they the loudest? No, but I find them perfect for a touring bike. They are quiet enough while cruising along the highway so you can actually hear your tunes. Yet they are loud enough when you get on it so people know your on a Harley.

It really depends on what you want... do you want a bike that's loud 100% of the time? Then Monster Rounds aren't for you. Do you want your bike to be loud when you want it to be loud? Then Monster Rounds could be right for you. Having said that they are not going to be all that loud with the stock pipe.... that cat really will cut down on the sound of any muffler.

I have MRs on my bike, including new headers without cats and the X crossover. They are not silent at all and I don't want anything louder.

I really like the setup.

Hopefully you listened to some different slip-ons before you decided on the Monster Rounds. If so, you got the sound you wanted. If you want a loud slip-on, the MRs are not it. They are louder than stock and have a nice deep rumble. When you twist on the throttle hard, you will be heard. They are also stereo friendly.

I have them and am not 100% happy with them as I prefer a little louder but I'm not dissatisfied enough to take them off and put 3 1/2" Rineharts on.

I agree. I have a buddy with a 2012 UC with the 103 and he did the MR's. Nice deep rumble definatly not blatty but nice and deep.  He also removed the batting which makes them a little louder.  I am thinking of getting a set or the supper traps (non tuneable).  Right now I am running V&H ovals and like them but I think they are a little blatty for my taste.  I have friends with Rineharts and they are much too loud and way blatty for me.

I like the idea of nice deep rumble, not too loud while going through the neighborhood late at night as well as coming home. As for rolling on the throttle and getting them to open up a bit is exactly what I'm looking for.

My $.02

What cams did you put in to get those numbers?   :nixweiss:  If you got that with just the headers and the monster rounds, you had a very generous dyno...I had the same headers and V&H basic 4" mufflers and could only squeek out 90 HP and 111 TQ on my '10 SESG.

In my talking to people on dyno numbers I have been told that different places measure number differently. Not sure why this is but I have been told this by different dyno people. Maybe it is the different dynos and how they measure or tell the operator to measure.
