54662-02 - Rear Shocks for 2003 FLHRSEI2 Question
« on: May 22, 2012, 06:45:15 AM »

I am looking at my 2003 FLHRSEI2 Parts Catalog

54662-02 - Shock Absorber,rear (w/#54320-97) (2)
Anyone know if these are still available or if the P/N has been superceeded?

Also, looking at the list it shows 54320-97 - Fitting, 5/32, push-in (2). To me this seems abit odd that they are not threaded.

I believe the shocks need to be replaced and or rebuilt.
I do not see any signs of leaking, cracking or damage to the tubing.

Can the push-in fittings be reused with replacement shocks or do i need to get the new tubing and fittings and make up a new set?

Thanks

Even new the stock shocks sucked Dennis.  Don't waste money replacing them with same.  Look for something from Progressive, Ohlin, Works or whomever.  But the stock pieces from Showa aren't worth the air it takes to inflat them (before they leak back down).

I basically know that. I am looking at progressive 440 HD.
BB just gave me his set of HD Air Shocks, with under 1K, that he took off of his SERG.
So no real expense to swap em out until I go to Bike Week and get some progressives.
Attempting to appease the BSR for a month or so.

CVOJoe gave me the P/N for my SERK, will have to dig that out.

PS: :) - That listing on your 2005 is like and ultimate Dream, List

X2 to both of the above posts. I was one that kept dealt with the stock shocks for most likely the longest of anyone on the site and can definitely say the difference between stock and the 940's are nite/day difference.... and if you trying to make "Momma" happy replacing worn out stock shocks with new/like new stock shocks ain't gonna do it. :(

It is only for about a month.
Laconia Bike Week is fast approaching and progressive always has a Shop there.
I want to do Progressive Monotube Front and progressive 440 HD rears that week.

yes.

from their site: http://www.progressivesuspension.com/940/index.html

Specifically designed to deliver a comfortable ride at a 1" lowered stance. Built around our "Best in Class" IAS technology, The Ultra Touring shocks utilize all the suspension travel provided by these 13" eye to eye units, but provide a 1" lowered ride height. The unique Ultra Touring spring combination not only delivers a lowered ride height while its being ridden, but also while its on the side stand.

If it's that close you may want to just wait and save the effort/energy. Even with checking the air on the stock shocks before a ride "Momma" was never happy here. You may also want to ask/compare the 440's to the 940's since the 940's are newer there may be some enhancements the 440's don't have. :nixweiss:

Laconia 89th Annual Bike week is a 75 mile ride for me.
:)I guess she will have to decide how badly she wants to ride for the next month or so.

I will wait until Laconia Bike Week, coming soon. Progressive always has a tent near the HD Dealer.

Do you recall what the OEM FLHRSEI2 Shock height was?
CVOJoe said the 440-4050C works well on his 03 SERK.
They appear to be 12" Eye to Eye.

12" is stock on rear.   Think about the 12.5" they offer on some of their shocks.  Won't notice it visually.  But especially with the heavy duty spring option on some models there's a real difference in how much you scrape.

On my list of questions to ask progressive.
:( BSR of 40 years has a less than perfect back, so I am not sure anything will ever completely pass her muster these days.
