12" or 13" premium shocks?
« on: May 27, 2012, 12:33:52 PM »

Getting this down to decision time. Getting rid of the air shocks (2009 cvo with 12") and wondering about going with a 12" or go up a little with a 13"? Going with monotube in the front. Any ideas?

If it were me, I'd go with full height suspension (13" shocks) front and rear, just to get the added ground clearance in turns.  And no HD suspension on either end.

I just put on the Progressive 940's.  Sits the same as the HD air shocks but rides so much better.  $489 at Directharleyparts.com

I put the monotubes on and the Harley coil over shocks for the 2012 street glide on the rear. They have the same ride height as the stock 09 SERG and the adjustment is only on the left side which makes adjustment a breeze. They may not be quite as good as some other after market rear shocks but the difference over stock is night and day. I'm incredibly happy with the current setup and, since I don't have a lot of problems with clearance, I didn't want to change the height from the original design. I really love the stance of the 09 SERG as is.

Unless you need to lower your bike to touch the ground, you will be much happier with the 13 inch shocks.  The added ground clearance and extra shock travel from the longer shocks will be better.

I went with 13" WORKS Performance shocks and don't miss the air shocks one bit.

How about this? The best of both worlds. Go with 13" shocks and install these blocks. I like these particular blocks because they keep the angle of the shock the same as stock ones.

I put the 12" Suspension Technology on the rear and love them, ground clearance has not been an issue. Not a big fan of lowering blocks....

That's the direction I went, they "sag" a bit when you get the bike off the side stand, but, you get the full travel of 13"
I'm waiting for my monotubes right now!

Just bought the 13" on eBay for $256.00. Couldn't past it up so I'll start with this and see how they do. Monotones for the front next.

They should sound good?

13" ST's here and I love them. Scrape anything now and you've got problems!

Just got the monotubes. Before starting the project should I buy bushing or just replace the oil seals?
