Ride to Bet Rain or "Shine"
« on: May 28, 2012, 05:18:36 PM »

Memorial Day is a time that represents so much to so many.  The original intent was to commemorate the fallen Union soldiers of the Civil War and from there is has grown.  Honoring those who have served and/or serving is of utmost importance to me and I am privileged to live in a land that is free because of them.  To all of you…Thank you!

Memorial Day also serves as an unofficial start to the summer and we all know what that means!  Let’s ride!  So not wanting to let anyone down I thought it would be nice to hit the prime real estate of the Southeast.

The Great Smoky Mountains | Land of Blue Smoke

The Cherokee described these mountains as “shaconage” meaning “blue like smoke”.  A smoke like bluish natural haze and mist like clouds that rise following a rain storm provided the inspiration for the Great Smoky Mountains.

There is plenty of fresh water to fish, tube, swim, walk, and just have fun in!  One matter is certain, it’s cold.

How convenient too as one of the longest continuous footpaths in the world resides here…The Appalachian Trail.  This trail winds through 14 states and is over 2,150 miles long.

Great News!  If you pick it up here instead of Georgia it’s only 1,972 miles to go!   :o
