Front motor mount
« on: June 01, 2012, 11:30:00 PM »

On the 04 Seeg,  how often should a front motor mount be replaced?    I got 74k.   I guess I did pretty good.  I finally changed mine out today. Something I rarely ever think about.

When it breaks (or cracks or splits).  That's it.

I replaced all my motor mounts, neck bearings checked/adjusted and swingarm bushings at 30k+ last fall when I did the suspension upgrades. I didn't want to leave anything on the table that may be the cause of the "wiggle/wobble".

I only did my front.  Seems to be ok when I'm rideing.   The new mount seems to pass alot more vibration at idle than the old worn out one.   Once you get going it seems better.   But at stop sign or traffic lights, I am not at all very happy..   Do they get better after a few oil chahges and get saturated with oil?   I hope so,, or it breaks in over some time...  I want the old cracked one back,, :(

Curious on what your suspension upgrades are.

One of the changes Harley made to make the mounts more durable was to change to a urethane material.  When they did that (around 2006 if I remember correctly), they also changed the vibration damping characteristics.  So it's common to notice more vibration when changing from the old original mount to the new mount.  In theory the new material will also stand up to oil much better than the old rubber part, so I wouldn't count on it "softening up" after a couple oil changes. ;)  You will eventually get used to it.  A good tune will also help; getting both cylinders to contribute the same output at idle and low speeds/light throttle does wonders for smoothness.

Thanks Jerry.  I got the latest ang greatest I'm sure.  It's the "d"    I'm sure it's much harder than the stock one.  I'll just have to get used to it I guess.  Thanks.  :nixweiss:

On my seeg i was chasing vibes and found the rear swingarm bushings and mounts were all shot. Ran nice and smooth after ( well relatively smooth for a harley)
