Detachable Tour Pak Lock For The Poor Man
« on: June 02, 2012, 01:58:29 PM »

In planning our rode trip I looked at the detachable with concern. I just can't spend the $$$ on the locking hardware on the market, so what to do? Then the Wile E Coyote (genius at work) came out of me and this is what I did. Drilled a small hole for a 10-32 screw, installed it with a nylock nut and plastic chrome license plate frame cover (all in stock here at the Kings Garage). This will keep a thief from running away with a tour pak, he/she would have to remove the left saddle bag (secured with allen head bolts on the front mounts) then remove the cover and screw. Tools he/she would need: Phillips screwdriver, 3/8 wrench, allen wrench.

Looking up, the screw is long and will keep you from lifting the tour pak.

Thanks for sharing your tip.  If you were the MoCo you would put them in a pakage, call it a security kit and charge $49.95  :mask: :grin2:

How about using a modified(shortened) trailer hitch lock with a rubber washer to snug it up?
