I KNOW me and OTIS have had 'dem Babies to 140 MPH!  When I let off, the speedo' stayed on 120 for 4 or 5 seconds!  Ol' Maudie gets a little "woozy" 'round that speed.  OTIS's SERG was runnin' straight as an arrow, sucked down to the Road, with His ears pinned back like a Cat in a Wind Tunnel! ;)  Later--HUBBARD

Aside fro the safety issue, I actually glad my wife wears a helmet, so she actually has to strap any dew rag, hat,and glasses on her head before she buckles up!!!! Keeps me from getting killed by going back and looking for stuff.  ( Actually saves me $$$ to!)

The SEEG folks hashed this one out last year  http://flhrsei.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1119012331/0.  The Ultra carries the same overall gearing, so the answer remains the same:  At the stock rev limiter setting of 5800 rpm, the theoretical top speed is 140.8 mph.  Actual top speed is going to be determined by several other factors including wind resistance, rolling resistance, and most of all pucker resistance. [smiley=nervous.gif]

Before I had enough experience to know better (my first e-glide), I tried out my SEEG on a nice stretch of sparsely populated 4-lane.  I got to an estimated 130 on the speedo (estimate based on how far the needle was past 120) and still pulling before I hit a slight bump in a long gentle curve and the front end started to dance. The Electra Glide chassis and front end geometry were not designed for those speeds, and continuing to run one that hard is just asking for a major problem. That experience cured me of wanting to know the true top speed.  Now I limit my occasional "rip through the gears" to about 100-110 mph, and then get it back down below 90 asap. BTW - at 110 you can tell it is still pulling hard enough to easily top 130.

WOW,,, that thread brings back memories!

I was in South Dakota on a long open piece of road and thought I'd see what my bike would do.  I experienced the wobble at about 115.  I just let off on the throttle and prayed that things would settle down.  It did, but I won't ever be going there again.  Top speed for my bike will be well short of 115 MPH.

Later I was at Black Hills HD and a vendor out front (True-Track, Inc.) was selling a fix for the wobble.  It was about $390.00 installed and they were trying to encourage folks to buy with "it's less expensive than a funeral."  It may be, but I can't believe that you'd need to spend that money on a fix that shouldn't need fixing.  I'm going to have to check out the thread on the wobble and see what's reported there.

I don't know if they all wobble and I don't know if they all wobble at the same speed, but I can tell you that you don't want to go there.  I thought that the speedometer going up to 120 MPH was an invitation to do just that.  I didn't get there and could not have been more grateful to my maker that the bike settled down.  Be cautious about testing the limits on your bike.

PHAZE,
Not that I'm advocating this in any shape or form, but have a question. I was wondering about the conditions (how your bike was loaded) when you experienced this. I was thinking since you were so far from home you may have been traveling, and had a load on the bike and possibly a passenger. I for one know from taking trips w/the extra weight that these bikes will get "squirrelly" in the front end because of all the weight being in the back. I

I was in South Dakota too (met PHAZE and many other CVO owners there) and those long, smooth, straight and flat South Dakota highways have a way of challenging your courage. You hear those roads saying "come on big boy, mr. no guts, let's see what you got." Well I couldn't resist either but I only took my HAZE up to 85 when the adult side of my brain woke up and reminded me that my driving privilege and my life might be more important that setting a land speed record. I can tell you the HAZE had plenty of stuff left though. I'm relatively confident it would do all of 120 if given the chance. Good news though was that at 85 on a loaded bike I experienced no wobble at all.
For any of you interested in speed under a controlled environment, a local charity here in Kansas City is offering the opportunity to do laps on your bike at the Kansas Speedway to everyone who comes up with $1K in pledges to the March of Dimes. Here's your chance to experience extreme speed while doing left turns.

I've had mine to 95 a couple of times loaded and with a passenger, but only briefly, as in passing on the interstate/highway, and have not experienced any ill effects (wobble) during those times.  However, after returning from a trip like that, and having the shocks at 30psi,and the rear tire at 40-42psi, I was riding in to work with just me on the bike, put it in a long sweeper at about 80mph, and it "wiggled" some on me...it is NOT a good feeling. I think these bikes are very sensitive to pressures in tires/shocks, as other times when alone and shocks at about 10psi and rear tire at 36, I have experienced no problems at the same speed in the same turn, and I've had it in a straight line up to 100mph, again briefly.  It's no where near the limits of what it will do, still pulling strong. I generally cruise when loaded and traveling at 75, if conditions allow.

I can vouch that with just me and Suzanne on the back (no luggage), the bike will lift the front wheel shifting from 1st to 2nd if you romp on her....
