Good weather app for smart phone
« on: June 06, 2012, 01:53:49 PM »

Just bought a smart phone, wondering what weather app is popular while on the road.  Looking for up to date/real time satellite maps....  suggestions would be appreciated.

I use "Rainy Days" and "Radar Now" for my Android phone.

Both fall into the category of 'good'...  but, I'm sure there's something(s) out there better.

I'm kind of limited simply due to my location.

Sometimes I swear I'm lost on some remote island.

I don't believe there is an app quite yet for the national weather service, where everyone gets the information but going to www.noaa.gov will offer the most complete accurate info (your tax dollars at work)

oh....btw, and old member here "rain man" was influential in setting up the development and server side of this project

Another vote for Accuweather.

Use it most days in the construction business too.

X3 for Accuweather. I have a widget set up on my Android that will show weather at current location and also when I click on the widget I have it set for home weather also (you can add multiple locations/cities to view when you click on the widget).

I use RadarScope. Gives you a realtime weather map of you location. U can zoom into your location wherever you are. I use it all the time.

ok, just tried Accuweather, the app RadarScope that I use is MUCH better in my opinion for bike riding.

Many great weather apps out there. Personal preference goes a long way. RadarScope shows every Doppler radar site in the country individually. Data can be interpreted in many different formats. Radar is very detailed. NOAA website is awesome for the amount of stuff that can be found on the site. Check out the National Hurricane Center this summer when there's a storm out there. The satellite data is great.       JoeS
