Tuner but no Dyno What up?? Dynos in Germany?
« on: June 06, 2012, 02:52:01 PM »

If you change the pipes, cans, and a tuner what happens if you don't get a dyno? I'm going with V&H Power Duals, Hi Output, and SEPRT but my dealer does not have a DYNO. What is the problem if any?
Anyone out there know where the Dynos are in Germany? What about Stuttgart area?

there are not many experienced tuners in Germany. If you are lucky your bike may run quite ok with a canned SEPST map and some improvements after logging runs. Otherwise I recommend Alex. Not in your area but not really far away. But don't let your dealer talk you in buying a SESPT instead of the real SEPST.

Even better yet, get a TTS kit.  Unless you're going for the highest possible line on a chart, you really don't even need to use any more "dyno" than your favorite stretch of road.  The SEPST is somewhat able to do that too if you also purchase the software, but not anywhere nearly as comprehensively as the TTS.

You'll have to do some kind of tuning on the bike...it'll run like crap otherwise, I'll bet.  One of the canned maps they have for the Race Tuner might get you close, but probably no cigar.

Check out the shop in Trier.  Forgot the name, but do believe they have one.

it's not the dyno but the man that handles the dyno ;)

If your bike does not perform as expected call Alex.

If Kraut says this guy is good, I'd make an effort to get to him.  Recommendations from this site are usually dead on right.

The SEPST software contains a feature with which you can install a special version of your base calibration and ride the bike on the road while taking a data log with the SEPST attached to the bike.  You then hook the computer up to the SEPST and retrieve the information which the software will use to generate new VE tables.  You can then take the resultant calibration, put it into the bike enabling "smart tune" again, and repeat the process a few times.  The more areas of operation you cover the truer the VE tables will become populated and this is in essence what constitutes the bulk of a good "tune".

The TTS setup currently requires toting a laptop or other type of MS Windows-laden computer while taking the data-collecting runs.  This is a minor inconvenience, to be sure, but the TTS system is so much better at the process that it's worth it.  I believe the SEPST can also do the data runs with a laptop attached if one wishes to gather more data than the limited internal storage of the SEPST can contain.

Neither system will protect your warranty any better than the other.  The only one which (may) unequivocally protect your warranty is the "street legal" version of the SEPST which only allows installation of "canned" calibrations.

Enjoy your time over there.  I understand there's some good riding routes/roads.

thanks for the tech info very detailed and useful did not know all that will become familiar with with it as I have discussion with my dealer. Is there anything else i should know regarding SEPST? what about saving my Stock factory settings and the new settings can they put it on disk for me or does the tuner have enought capacity??

Regardless, I'd get in saved to a disc, along with the final calibration.  I've got the TTS, but have both stock and other calibrations saved on disc, thumbdrive, and two different hard drives.

glens - alibi, yep there are some really nice rides. I don't get out as much as some of the single guys but we are in right on the edge of the Black Forest and its really nice a lot nice rides with winding roads not really the best for the big touring bikes its picturesque none the less.... and if we go out on a back road you can always get back quickly buy jumping on the autobahn and flying home at Mach 10.....
