Here is a true story I love to tell.

In 2004 we took a family vacation to Kona, Hawaii with some friends, and one of the things we did was attend a luau at the King Kamehameha hotel. Hawaii is still one of the honeymoon capitols of the world, and during the evening the master of ceremony asked that all the newlywed couples come up on stage. There were folks up there married from two days to two months.

Then he asked for the couple who had been married the longest. He found a pair married 65 years. Using his wireless mic he ran to their table. He asked the wife to tell all the new brides the secret to a long marriage. The lady spoke all the words of wisdom from the prophet and poet Kahlil Gibran. She said to be close, but not so close that you lose yourself. She said to save some love for yourself. To honor and respect yourself, your spouse, as well as the sacred institution of marriage. She went on and on with prose and poetry till the whole place was quiet and there was not a dry eye in the house.

He then turned to the husband and asked him to give advice to all new new bridegrooms on the secret to being married 65 years. The old man leaned forward and said,......."Huh, whaddya say?.......Ah,..whatever my wife said is fine'. The place busted out in laughter and I almost fell over. The real secret to being married a long time is to be deaf and just agree with your wife on everything.

And that's a real story 'cause I was there.
