Buy One Or Not - Input Requested
« on: June 08, 2012, 10:05:58 PM »

OK, current owners, I've got a decision to make and would like some input/advice.  There are a couple of deals out there on a 2011 or 2012 FLSTSE, but I have to admit I'm a bit leery about pulling the trigger on one, primarily due to the ongoing issues a lot of you have had with the clock re-setting/low fuel warning light coming on gremlins.  I do like all the bling on the model, especially the wheels, low seat height, paint.......but really the main reason I want one is because they have the Electronic Cruise Control and detachable bags.
So, I've kept up with the thread about the clock re-set issue, and it seems like some owners think they have it whipped, while others are still having problems, some even after having their dealer do the factory re-flash.  The last thing I want is to spend $22-$25K on one and have an ongoing issue with it.  I'm tempted to wait to see if maybe the 2013's have TBW on the Softails, and if so just get a 110th anniversary model Heritage.  But, then, they are 2+ months away from the unveiling, and no guarantee that change will take place.
So, looking for your thoughts!
Thanks!

I have NOT had any issues with mine since the Re Flash. . .
I don't think I would let this small problem influence my purchase.

if they cure some bugs on model year change they usually build in the next - and you never know if there will be another CVO Convertible  ;)

These tiny issues are not even really worth mentioning, yeah we paid for it and it should work correctly but it certainly would not stop me from buying another. Consider this, there is nothing else to complain about with these Convertibles so we basically pick up on anything there is no matter how small an issue. These bikes are just plain awesome, period.

There is only three small issues that come to mind with these bikes.

Clock reset - have the dealer check the grounds before it ever leaves the dealership and forwarn them that it will be back for a reflash if it starts resetting. Mine is fixed with the correct re-flash.
Low fuel indication upon startup - I'm not even worrying about this one - big deal so you make sure it has fuel, it does not effect the fuel level gauge from being correct.
Bags falling off - I believe this to be human error 99% (IMO) Heck, when I picked my bike up new the techs didn't even know how to put the bags on or lock them. They finally got them on and left them just sitting there until "I" said - you guys didn't lock the bags - then they didn't know how, finally after about 15 minutes they got them locked. I have never had a problem and do not zip tie them on.

A clock resetting itself back to 12:00 every time I started it certainly wouldn't stop me from buying one of these for 5 grand off.

I totally agree with Mr Warlock. I've got a 2011 and it's a fantastic bike to ride and also a great looker. I've done nearly 17K and loved every mile. Go for it!

I also read all these threads prior to my purchase and they had no effect on my decision to purchase.  I have no regrets so far  :carrot: :jalapeno: :cucumber:

I own a 2012 and have had very few problems. The bag locks are something to master and check on a regular basis. Every time you get on and twist the throttle you'll have a grin ear to ear.   ;D

I have to echo everything I have read on this thread so far. Mine is a 2011 with a 2012 windshield upgrade. I love riding this bike and it's almost as enjoyable when you park it someplace. I have never been out anywhere with it when at least a few people comment on it..."Nice Bike" "Hey, sharp bike, what is it?" , or something to that effect. Hey, when you shell out 30 thousand dollars, it's good to know others are jealous lol.

I love my 2012, the problems I have with the clock is just that it has it, it should work, if you know what I mean. as far as the bike in general, I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in this type of bike. This is a good running and it handles great!
