Extended warranty
« on: June 12, 2012, 10:37:24 AM »

Ok, going to pick up my 2005 SEEG tomorrow and I have to make a decision between now and then on the warranty. I see prices mentioned on this board and others and those prices range from $800 to $1,800. I have to assume the price depends a lot on the year model. So, given that this is a 2005 with 15k mileage, what should a 3 year warranty with wheel and tire coverage cost?

The MoCo has put out a list of "suggested" prices, depending on how many years of extended service you want.  Some dealerships will tell BS.....like "the cost is mandated by Harley, not by us", etc. however, that's not true.

If a bike is used then I'm not sure how it works.

I know that on all four of my baggers the extended warranty paid for itself and then some.  It's chep insurance, especially if you pile the miles on like some of these guys.  Me, I'm just a Sunday rider. :nixweiss:

Shop around and you'll save some money. Like JCZ said the MOCO has suggested prices for the extended warranty and for some stealers, I mean dealers, thats where the pricing ends. None of the dealers in my area offer any kind of discounts unless you bring them an offer from another dealer (That's BS!).

After doing some research I went with Tri-County in Ohio. Great people to work with and they gave me 20% off. I just can't understand why our local dealers can't get with the program.

Just got off the phone with Tri-County. They've had their hand slapped by HD for selling warranties outside their territory so they can no longer do that. Guess I'm going to have to twist my local dealers arm a little harder.

Thanks for the info gunny. The flyer says the listed pricing is for new bikes covered under factory warranty. I called the dealership but the warranty dude isn't there today. At least I have more information now than I had last week. After getting advice here and talking to several others I think I know enough to twist the dealers arm for a better price now.

I don't believe in extended warranties, so I didn't purchase it. Wish I had. My engine went out at 30,000 and it was $5K to rebuild. The warranty would have covered it. Next time I'll get the warranty.
