CVO RGU Mods
« on: June 13, 2012, 03:22:03 PM »

As you can see in my signature, I have added several mods to my bike based on performance, safety, comfort and overall enjoyment of the ride experience. All of these were researched (and decided) based on information available on this forum. Thank you to the members. Any other mod recommendations appreciated.

I'm always looking to learn, and maybe (ok, probably) ignorant, but why are you running TTS Mastertune and V&H Throttlepack?

Here is your answer:

Throttlepak is a device that modifies the speed and degree to which the throttle body opens the throttle plate. It only affects the throttle plate’s opening speed. It does not affect the fuel curve, timing curve or any other sensors on the motorcycle, thereby allowing any type of fuel management or flash programming to work as desired. In other words, any diagnostic or ECM tuning work done before the installation of Throttlepak will not be affected.

I'm in the same boat as Spada84, still not sure why the Throttlepak is necessary.

I see what Darth Davidson is saying, but can't you do the same thing with the TTS (get rid of throttle lag and improve initial throttle response)?

This is directly from the website:

Throttlepak is a device that modifies the speed and degree to which the throttle body opens the throttle plate. It only affects the throttle plate’s opening speed. It does not affect the fuel curve, timing curve or any other sensors on the motorcycle, thereby allowing any type of fuel management or flash programming to work as desired. In other words, any diagnostic or ECM tuning work done before the installation of Throttlepak will not be affected.Throttlepak’s Patent Pending technology distinguishes itself from common programming modules because it functions dynamically, constantly making adjustments based on reading the quickness with which you twist the throttle grip. Competitor products use only linear tables that can provide the rider only a pre-determined amount of throttle response.

Throttlepak’s “smart” technology senses your throttle movement, moment-by-moment, adding the right amount of assist to deliver the responsiveness you’re asking for. For example, when you want the throttle to open quickly, such as when changing lanes or merging onto a highway, the throttle response will be crisp. On the other hand, if you’re navigating an unstable road surface, like a dirty or slippery road, the throttle response will be more moderate, where you won’t have to worry about the throttle becoming “jumpy” or “jerky”.

I purchased Thottlepak prior to Fullsac Stage I. Prior to installing Thottlepak, I noticed a distinct lag when compared to my 2003 Fatboy. Thottlepak resolved that issue.

I also have the throttlepak and use it for the same reason.  I have found the lag eliminated after installation and wouldn't trade it for anything.  :2vrolijk_21:

The TTS Mastertune has what's called "Throttle Blade Control".  It's one of the three reasons I selected it over other tuners.  Here's a link to a post under the ECM section that goes over it in more detail.  No need to put something permanent on a scooter, that one does not need.

jwalker793,

I am very interested in your choice for suspension upgrades and your thoughts about the results.  I am just starting to research possible suspension upgrades.  My wife and I came from a 2006 BMW 1200LT.  We noticed that the FLTRUSE rode OK, but my wife complains alittle about the general ride quality and the jolting from the bumps in the road.

Did your suspension upgrades improve the ride quality in general?  How much did the passenger comfort improve?  Did it also help cornering abilities?  How difficult was the installation?  What other components did you consider?

This bike is all about keeping my wife happy for long trips.  Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin,

Overall, based on my experience, the suspension upgrades are a substantial improvement over stock configuration. Passenger and rider comfort are dramatically better and handling and responsiveness is also improved IMHO. My HD dealer performed the installation of both the Progressive Monotubes kit and the Legend Air shocks. The Legend Air rear shocks have a unique feature which allows you to make adjustments real time via a switch mounted and fitted nicely on the right side of the handlebar. You have an option to get it in chrome.

If you ride two up a great deal, you will love the Legends.  The stock suspension on a HD is absolutely the cheapest, low bid crap you could put on a bike.  Almost ANYTHING would be an improvement in all respects.  The Progressive Monotubes/Legends is a great option...if you want to take it a step further, the Traxxion Dynamics AK-20 front cartridges and Legend shocks is as good as it gets, IMO.  But, I'm prejudiced.
