That is true! I have wild hog and deer in my freezer right now! On the hogs I try to kill a small one to eat and then try to feed the coyotes the big ones!

We smoke the meat here.. goes great as a breakfast meat (think a leaner smokey bacon) or great along a post work beer!

do not ride through wooded areas or along the borderline from woods to fields in dusk or dawn.

If you have to: turn on some hard music like ACDC as loud as your speakers may play.

Don't speed, try to closely follow a truck or anything else as massive as possible - but never forget: their brakes may be way better than yours.

If you see any movement apply brakes and hit the horn.

Do not try evasive action as trees or oncoming traffic are even harder than deer - if you can't avoid them brake down as much as possible, hit them staight on and try to get clear of the bike before impact.

And never forget: pigs, deer and sheep mostly come in numbers, after the first has crossed the road many more may follow.

Just my personal combined experience as hunter, driver and rider in a densely wild life populated area  ;)
Good call Kraut!! Ted Nugent is my favorite loud riding deer scaring music!! :orange:

It's not only deer, there are all kinds of wild critters out there you need to watch for.  Some of them are not interested in sharing the road either... :huepfenlol2:

I live in a very rural area with a high deer population so I am always alert to the possibility of a deer encounter near home. I learned the hard way that I need to be alert to that possibility everywhere at all times. I was in town in a very densely populated area riding down the main highway right at dark one night when 3 does came across the railroad track on a collision course with me. I guess I startled them as much as they did me because they all slammed on their brakes, front legs all splayed out, right on the center line. It happened so fast that I had no time to react, just went on down the road a bit then pulled over and thought about selling my motorcycles and buying a Hummer with a cowcatcher on front.

There was a moment of indecision on what to do.  I ended up stopping where I was, shutting the bike off and sitting real still.   :nervous:  He just walked on by.   :coolblue:

Anyone else ever get the Heeby Geebies while riding? ( Thinking about a deer running over you? ) I live in the country with about a 30 minute ride to where you may not see a deer going to town. Just yesterday morning about 10 minutes from my house I just decided to slow down and really pay attention to the wood line by the road. Not a close call this time (have had several) but a deer crossed the road in front of me in 5th gear!! For that reason I don't care to ride home from town at night either!! Anyone else share that Heeby Geebie feeling?  :)

Just have to be heartened by the fact the deer didn't have the SE six speed installed.

Our area is crawling with them! The other night I took a ride about 7:30 PM and before I got home at 9:30 I counted a dozen of them along the roadside. That doesn't even count all the turkeys I saw! I just take it really easy, keep my eyes open, and say a few prayers!

I got a suppressed .45 cure for that.  ::)

Growing up in Idaho, I could swear cows sought out motorcycles, just to run in front of them.  Always managed to avoid them.

Funny thing, though.  The only time I ever hit a deer (in a car) was on a freeway on-ramp in Newark, NJ!  For those of you who are not familiar with Newark, it's one of the densest urban areas in the US.  Just a few miles from NYC.  That was one lost deer.

Not deer here but we have Kangaroos. A while ago we were on a night ride and a medium one bolted from the side of the road and manged to miss the first 3 bikes in the group and put his chin on the front mudguard, impacted the front crash bar, brushed my leg and pushed the bsr leg against the back crash bar and the side cover. The impact put the 'roo into a spin that allowed the following bikes to duck either side. All the brake lights left the sweep rider real slow - he arrived on a dazed roo shaking its head in the middle of the road. Bsr still has a dint on her leg. Replaced split upper lower and paint damaged side cover and laundry charges. Kangaroos, Emus, goats, sheep, cattle, brumbies, wombats, camels, goannas and wedge tail eagles on roadkill are some of the larger road furniture in Oz.

Sounds like a petting zoo on the hi-way!  :) Bet those Kangaroos could be a little tricky to dodge!

Thank you.  Just finished laughing until my eyes leaked thinking back on a time I was a bigger idiot than normal.  Was on a trip to Oz quite a few years ago and the trip had me and some others out somewhere at what I guess was the edge of the Tanami/Simpson area.  Up late one night after a long and hard day I had imbibed an adult beverage or several and knew I was... well.... perhaps immoderately impaired.

Then, by the shadow of the fire, I see a camel.  One humper.  Except I didn't know Oz had camels.  My mates off doing other things for a bit it's just me, the fire and its shadows and this camel.  He walks through like he owns the place then goes his merry way.  I was blown away....
