I  moved your thread down here so you could get replies to your question the board you originally posted in is for sharing GPS routes already created.

I and a few others are using Mapsource. There are others that use other programs also to create routes to send to their GPS'.

at first I hated Mapsource, now that I have figured it out it isn't so bad. I route it in Google, then refferece it when I make it in Mapsource. Then I do a quick scan on the GPS to make sure nothing got lost when I uploaded it.

Got my first Garmin GPS in 2006.  With the Garmin I had to get into Mapsource and absolutely hated it.  It is not user friendly.  Remember older computers before Windows when you had to use DOS commands?  It seems that bad.  But after working with it and learning its ins and outs and little idiosyncrasies I find it to be quite good.  Like anything else there is definitely a learning curve.

Personally I am not a fan of internet based mapping applications.  They just are too slow and cumbersome for me.  And I like creating the route using the same native map dataset that the gps unit uses.  That way there are no 'translation' issues.  Just make sure you have the routing preferences set the same in Mapsource and on the unit.

I use mapsource on every trip. I like to specify every route I take, rather than let the gps take me there. Once you get the hang of it it's very simple and sure makes for some great custom routes.

I agree with GR.  Take the time to learn it.  I build my routes day by day, that way I can see the total day distance & how many miles are left.  For the majority of rides within AZ I built a file called Waypoints.  That file contains all the cool places, gas, food etc in AZ that I might use.  If we take off for the day, change our mind I can always pick a Waypoint to go to.  I also use that file as the basis for all the within AZ routes I create.  I always use Waypoints because they show up on the GPS navigation & tell me how far to the next point, great for planning gas when there are not a lot of stations.

This is what my routes look like for a trip, this was our Memorial Day Trip.  The XXa or b are additional routes for things we might decide to see.  These are all in the GPS when we leave, that way the entire trip is there but just not in a signe file.

don't invest time in mapsource - if you have to learn from scratches start with basecamp right away as it will replace mapsource. For pc planning I support tyre too, it's much more comfortable. But myself I switched to planning in google maps and then typing the neccessary waypoints directly into the zumo - with a little training it's just as fast and you don't need to double check after you sent a route.
