2010 SEUltra-At 18,500 miles I changed the front tires to American Elites, front pads to Lyndall Z plus, and the front wheel bearings.  Since then I have a eeeeeeeeeeeeee noise only when applying the front brakes.  It is not a squeal or a scraping noise.   I did not hear this noise before the above work.

Bike stops fine and there is NO pulsation/vibrations in the rotors.  I have been fighting this for the last 1200 miles.  I thought I could figure this out but can't on my own.

I have dial indicated the front rotors, had the calipres off at least 6 times, and the front wheel off two more times.  Everything checks/works/looks fine to me.

I originally did not change the pad pins but have since and also changed the pad clips even though I didn't see anything wrong with the old ones.  From what I can tell, the floating rotors (rivots) look fine.

I have even rode the bike with each calipre off and the noise was still there but not as bad.  I have taken the screens off to make sure the pads were resting in the clips and have made sure each pad is touching the rotor at the top and bottom.

The calipre pistons move in freely.   Continued

eeeeeeeeee

When I take the calipres off, they slide easily off the rotor.  The manual says you slide them down and off the rotor but my stock brake lines aren't long enough to do so.  I have to lightly pinch in on the fender to get the calipres off.

Right now everything is assembled dry but have also used Hawk Performance brake pad lube that I had but didn't help.

I have a 400 foot long driveway and after putting the calipres back on, I don't seem to hear the noise on the first stop.  But gets a little louder with every subsequent stop until it levels off.  When coasting after applying the brakes I can barely hear the noise with the engine shut off.

I spun the front wheel on the axle between 2 jack stands and I couldn't hear any noise and the bearings turned freely with no ratchetyness.

The bad thing is I threw my old front pads away so I don't have them to put back on to at least see if it is the pads.  I put Lyndalls on my wifes 09 with no problems.

My good friend OhioDave will laugh his ass off when he reads this.  His help has been:

"Remind me not to let you help with my brakes".
"Turn the radio up".
"You need louder mufflers."    :cherry:

Not so much a squeel, but I did notice a change from the old pads to the new as the pads pass the holes in the rotors... (on my '09)

FYI I went 26K before changing the pads on the '09.

not gonna worry about that on my '12 for a while.

Thanks for responding 2012.  I did a search and there was a post from 2008 by Dan_Lockwood that stated his brakes made a noise that sounded like "locusts"..

I have been trying to think what my noise sounds like and a locust sound is as close as I can do.  Dan thought the noise was caused by the air passing the pads and the holes in the rotors.

Nothing conclusive came out of the 2008 thread.

Anyone reading this and has any ideas is much appreciated by me-thanks.

If it is the pads, I don't know why my wife's bike is quiet and she can hear anything.

I emailed Lyndall a few days after Memorial Day and no response.

Thanks for responding.

Bob, I've got Lyndall pads on the Brembo calipers that are installed on the Road King.  No piglet nor any locust noise there.

Took the clutch side calipre back off tonight and pumped the pistons all the way out with one pad in between to clean pistons on the outside..  Took pad out and while pushing the pistons back in one popped out.  Removed calipre, disassembled, wiped out good and reassembled with old seals.  Bleed brakes in the front (not as firm as it was).  Supposed to hook up to digital technician I guess.

Got late so unable to ride to see if calipre leaks.  Noise is probably still there.

Don-Can you post the Brembo calipre seals/orings part numbers again or provide a link to them??.  Thanks-Bob..

Will do Bob.  But you'll likely be just fine.  Reused a few sets of those before the aftermarket replacements came out.  All with no problem.  Will go find the numbers.  Be back presently.

Found it:

Drag numbers are 1702-0117 for the fronts 1702-0118 for the rear for complete kits including pistons and seals.  Seal kit only 1702-0125 for the front 1702-0126 for the rear.

I know first hand that you put the piglet to shame!  :bananarock:

I changed my brake pads, and it sounds like Ned Beatty in Deliverance.

Should I be concerned?

You would have to do the audio and post it.  Just send the white coats.
