Code P1351 Bike won't run
« on: June 15, 2012, 03:53:23 PM »

2010 SESG, Fullsac xpipe & TTS mastertune w/ steve's map. I parked the bike last Saturday and cleaned her up (wiped it down, did not wash the bike though). The bike was running great when I parked it. I went out last tonight to fire her up and she wouldnt run.. Barely started and seemed to running on only 1 cylinder. checked the codes and P1351 came up.. Front ignition Coil driver open/low. I checked the plug wires and the he connections to the ignition coil.. Everything seems OK. Any suggestions on what to check next?  Or should I have the dealer come pick it up? I have 15 days left on the warranty.

Thanks

Do you have a DVOM and a wiring diagram?  If not, I'd suggest you just call the dealer.

The P1351 code is usually caused by an open circuit in the primary windings of the coil, or an open or short to ground in the circuit between the ECM and the coil, or an internal fault in the ECM itself.

The same circuit provides power to the ECM, Fuel Pump, Coil and Crank Sensor...  I'd check the power to the coil at the plug with a meter (when you turn the key/ignition on, you should see battery voltage at the coil plug for a few seconds - at the same time you hear the fuel pump operate).  If the power to the coil plug checks good, then I'd leans toward a component issue, such as an open in the coil windings, or ECM issue.

They gave you a warranty, don't beat you're head against a wall, use it while you can...

Of course, don't let your warranty run out with your problem remaining - but sometimes when possible it's better to solve your own issues vs. surrendering your bike into the abyss of the "dealership technician"...    ::)
