Cats, Cats....where are the Cats?
« on: June 17, 2012, 02:45:17 PM »

Ok, so I read on a previous thread here that the cats on my 2011 Convertible where in the mufflers.
The Parts manager at my dealer told me yesterday that they were in the head pipes.

Who can tell me for sure where they are. It will determine if I buy a whole new exhaust system and probably an expensive tuner, or....some better sounding slip-ons.

I'm a "mature" rider and my bike has plenty of power for my needs. Not looking to add horsepower, but I want a slightly louder, deeper rumble to come from it.

I am open to suggestions, Thanks

Nope, they are in the mufflers, check the first reply from Doc1 in this thread http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=74259.0

The second thing is this email I received from Cycle Shack inquiring about the availability of a muffler

Hady,

This muffler is longer than our regular FXST-FLST slip-fit mufflers.  So we really don't have a direct replacement.

Additionally, the CVO Softail convertible has catalyst mufflers and it would be illegal to replace them with non-catalyst exhausts.

Sorry we don't currently have a muffler set for your bike.

2010 are definitely in the mufflers.  I don't know about 2011 and 2012.

I heard the 2010 had the catalyst in the mufflers, and I haven't seen any information since then indicating anything has changed.  But there is a very simple way to figure it out.  Remove the muffler and look

On the 2010 they are in the mufflers. 100% sure on that as I removed mine and replaced the cores with baffles from Fullsac Performance. There are several threads on this in the ConV forum.

The cats are in the mufflers, and yes I can fix that. We use a 1.75 louvered core, two sound levels are available. Both are on the quieter side.
Mufflers must be sent in. Please inquire at info@fullsac.com for pricing.

I have Steve's baffles (early prototype) on my ConV and I can tell you the sound and performance are both excellent. Quiet side yes, but they still bark nicely when you twist the throttle. I would put the volume about halfway between the Screaming Eagle and Rush slip-ons with the same core diameter.
