Progressive Suspension 440-4002 Question
« on: June 17, 2012, 07:04:39 PM »

I just ordered these from Amazon so I can get them installed before a trip to Florida I have coming up.  I ordered these because I wanted the standard duty, not the heavy duty as I don't weigh enough to make the HD worthwhile.  It looks to me like the HD shocks are a different part number, 440-4020.  On my receipt from Amazon, they show the correct part number, 440-4002, but they list them as "Progressive Suspension 440-4002B Black Anodized Finish 13.0" Heavy Duty Inertia Active System Rear Suspension Shock".  Can the 4002's come in an HD configuration as well?  Need to know ASAP to find out if I should cancel the order.

You're OK as long as you get that stock number (-4002).  The Progressive Suspension web site shows that as the regular, or non-heavy duty, version.

Some marketing person either took liberties with the wording, or they copied the wording from the heavy version.

I'm sure hoping that's the case.  I'm thinking that there is a possibility that Progressive Suspension has an HD in the distribution part number to denote Harley Davidson, and Amazon mistook it for heavy duty.  I definitely selected the 4002 and not the 4020, and the order reflects that.

According to Progressive's charts, the 440-4002 is the standard duty version and the 440-4020 is the heavy duty version for a 13" shock to fit a 2010 FLH.  The spring rate for the 4002 is 90/130 lbs per inch, and the spring rate for the 4020 is 105/150 lbs per inch.

Thanks.  I'm really thinking it's a marketing misstep.  Looking forward to seeing what suspension improvement I get from this and the monotubes, both going in at the same time.
