Leather Tour Paks
« on: August 06, 2006, 12:44:54 AM »

Question for all with leather tour paks. I have heard nightmare stories about them bubbling and delaminating due to rain and weather. What does everyone do to protect a brand new one from the inevitable elements?

Hi sponserv,
I don't know if they actually delaminate but they will expand and contract some due to heat. The paste that Harley gives when you buy the bike to treat leather is very good. I used it for nine years on the saddlebags and seat of my Fatboy and it looked brand new. I plan to use it on my 2006 tourpak.

I've had not trouble at all with mine.  Like VaEagle said, just use the Harley leather paste often.

sponserv,

The leather covered tour-pak should be no different than the leather covered saddlebags on Road Kings, or a leather seat for that matter.

Don't have to add anything besides the Harley "goop" mentioned above.  It cleans well and restores the oils.  I have had leather covered bags for nearly 7 years now on other bikes and they look like brand new.

BTW, I love the leather tour pack.  It is unique and blends well with the top of the bike.  Was one of the reasons I was drawn to the CUSE.  But, to each his own.  If the stuff we need to take doesn't fit, ship it or do without!

Thanks Folks!

Looks like regular maintenance with the HD leather treatment will get the job done.

I appreciate the quick responses.

You got it right.  That works for me.  Just don't panic if you see it bubble a little.  If you wait awhile it will change, just like the weather.   [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]
