Pizz Poor AM Recption
« on: June 18, 2012, 11:29:51 AM »

Don't listen to AM radio much but sometimes I do tune in to catch a couple minutes of the talk shows if I happen to be on the bike.  But my new '12 cuse7 has terrible AM reception - lots of static and noise.  So Saturday I did an experiment in my garage.  With the engine not running and ignition on accessory position I turned on the same AM station on my cuse7 and my '07 cuse2 sitting side by side.  The AM on the '07 was fine but on the '12 it was terrible.  So I switched antennas between the bikes - no change.

Just wondering what the problem might be and what to check.  I have checked to verify that the antenna is plugged in to the radio and of course to the antenna itself.  And the ground wire in the tour pak is connected.

I have the same problems. I'm afraid it's standard and we have to listen to CD or IPod.

Ride safe and have fun.

I have the same problem and i also lose a few FM channels. My son and i started looking for anything that would cause interference. The main source of that we found was in the tour pack, if you move the wire to the 12 volt acc outlet most of your static will go away. I just moved mine up a little away from the antenna wire. But what we found was if the tour pack lid was open we got great reception, if we closed the lid we had static again. But what really made us scratch our heads was we unpluged the antenna in the tour pack got great reception and was able to close the lid and still have great reception. I am now listening to my radio with no antenna and have great reception. Anyone know why this works?

The older style antennas work better.

It's the PFM principle.
