Progressive 412 versus 440 on a skunk
« on: June 18, 2012, 12:49:09 PM »

Wondering if anyone is using Progressive 412 shocks (12 inch) on your CVO touring bike.  I have them on my non-CVO 09 Street Glide and really like them.  Debating between the 412's and the 440's on my 2012 CVO Road Glide. Concerned that the 440' s may be too harsh with my weight @ 160 lbs.  Also planning to put the Progressive monotube on the front.

Any thoughts, thanks.

If you get the standard 440's, the only difference is the preload will be adjustable by hand, instead of needing a tool.

You may want to check out Suspension Technology shocks offered by site member hd-dude (Jim).  I had the progressive 440 12 inch standard on my SEEG for years, but the ST shocks blow them away on ride quality and are the same price.  You give them your weight and riding style (one up, two up), they build a shock for you that is also easily adjustable if needed.

I've had both 440 IAS and the 412's.

11.5" 440's on my SEEG and '09 FLHX. 11.5" 412's on my FLHXSE2...all were Heavy Duty.

I'll NEVER pay for 440 price again as I've found like many others, that the 412's are equal, at least to me.

The price is right on the Suspension Technologies shocks!  This is exactly what I've been looking for...a good price and great performance.  What could be better than a shock built to your own specifications at half the price of the other guys?

Thank you Pete!

Thanks for all of the input.  Just dropped the skunk off at the indie for 5000 mile service and shock install.  I went with the Progressive 412's and the mono tube kit.  Have the 412's on my 09 non-CVO Street Glide and like 'em, so went with them again.... and they are cheap, $200.

Will report back after the install.

Reporting back: picked up the skunk this afternoon after the 412/monotube suspension install, and 5000 mile service.  So nice to have an independent mechanic who is fairly priced and will talk to you about your bike :2vrolijk_21:

As expected, the ride is so much better.  No more flinching at road seams...man hole covers, bring 'em on.   Smooth in the corners.  Feels like the bike is sitting about 1/2 inch lower on both ends, a plus for me...

Best mod yet

X2 I love the improved ride I have now on my 2009 SERG using the above Suspension Technologies U.S.A. shocks and the H-D premium Ride cartridge front fork kit. Got the shocks from Jim at Metal Dragon too.

First I've read about the Suspension Technology shocks. Time to dig into those as well.
