I have just installed 2 inch Full sac cores on my 2012 SG CVO and love the rumble but was wondering is there much of a difference if I went and changed the headers for Sound only? I know it will change the heat and more HP with the tuner but Sound is my question

Thanks

I just installed the 2 inch cores as well.  I had a muffler shop grind out the welds for me as I didn't really want to fool with it. When I picked them up he had removed the the stock cores and padding.  I installed the new fullsac's and it was quite loud as compared to stock.  It sounded great with the rumble but louder than what I truly wanted. I live in a golf course community and didn't really want to po the neighbors, so I did end up putting the cloth back in.  If its just lounder sound that you want this is an easy mod.

They sound much better with the packing... it eliminates the annoying "ringing" high-frequency tones and leaves only the good-sounding low-frequency tones.

Just received my 'C' x-pipe and 2" cores from Ful-Sac and waiting for the new TTS unit. I am thinking of going ahead and installing the cores now and waiting on the x-pipe until after the TTS arrives. Just curious . . . I have heard different thoughts on how much packing to put back in with the new cores. Does any one have any recommendations??

I pulled out the "spiral wound" glass stands because they were burnt and coming apart and replaced with:
LexxMXe packing (1216150001) from Rocky Mt. Acc.
So far, no deterioration and no sound change since installed. I checked the mufflers last month on the 2" cores and its still holding up fine.
My 2010 with 1 3/4 cores have about 30k miles on the packing and it's still intact.

I left all the original packing around my 2" cores.  It will burn out over time, so the long term solution is what Hogmike did, but I'll wait until I get more miles on mine before going that route.

I personally would not want my exhaust to be any louder than it is with the 2" cores.  I am over loud pipes though...much above the sound level of the 2" cores becomes somewhat obnoxious to my ear, and I am certain that it annoys other "civilians", so I try and be respectful to my neighbors and those riding in cages on the road with me.  Otherwise, it will be legislated and we will be forced to do it, and that usually means an extreme in the other direction.  But that's another topic.

No packing at all would likely give the exhaust note a "tinny" sound.

Thanks HogMike and Midnight Rider,

I too am getting to where I don't feel the need to "impress" others with the sound of my bike, but still want a bit of rumble. I think my route for now will be to use the OE packing as I only have 300 miles on the bike. I am guessing it can't be too blown out yet. The nice thing about these inserts is I can always purchase 3rd party packing later. I definitely don't want the "tinny" sound, so packing it is!!

Thanks again,

Yep! That's the thing to do. The low-frequency sounds are what you want - they are what make it sound like a Harley. The high-frequency sounds without packing are just annoying, and detect from that nice rumble. The Fullsac 2" baffles sound great - not too loud at idle, but they bark pretty good when you get on it.

I like my 2 inch cores, the rumble but would like to be a little louder. Is it an option to remove some packing, all of the packing, or replacing the packing with something else. Any comments would greatly be appreciated especially from riders who have removed all or part of the packing or go to 2.25 inch cores. Is it a cheap tinny sound???

Thanks Barry

If you left the stock packing in, it will gradually burn out to some extent and the pipes will get a bit louder.  Without any packing, they are too "tinny", IMO.  Or you can buy the blanket type wrap and put however many layers you want to get the sound you like.  Or get the new cores, as mentioned above if you'd rather not "fiddle" with what you have.

I have installed the Fullsac 2.25 Power Cores SD on my 2012 SESG , They are not to loud at all...I still have cat in been waiting on xpipe for awhile Alice called and said the xpipe is in but no TTS Tuners to be had anywhere!! And no idea when they are going to get them in...I have searched far and wide everyone is out of them ......it has been 95 to hundred degrees all week here in KC .....they they say at Fulsac don't ride with half a sac....I have about burnt half a right sac off......with the cat still in ......Alice wanted to know if I wanted the pipes shipped ? Well I can't use xpipe without the tuner....so I am waiting and having them both shipped at same time...I am hoping the wait will be worth it and it will cool down the beast not mention, the extra HP!!!!!

I have heard the 2.0 cores on a identicle  bike at Worth HD in KC, MO. the sound differance is not noticble. i have the 2.25 Power Core SD.s on mine...I have no packing in mine...i might put some in to see if it helps....i wont know till i get my TTS Tuner and xpipe which ive waited for over 8 weeks, and get the cat out...i have read alot of posts .... and heard alot of bikes recently,i am looking for a sound that is deep, and rich ....but not enough to drown out the stereo system...a delicate balance....(loud is easy) i heard a stock 103 at Gails HD in Kc with stock headers and cat still in, with CFR slip ons....Wow talk about a rumble....I never even considered CFRs till i heard them in person.....i dont really like the looks of them was going for stock look with added performance and sound, which i believe Fullsac has nailed( not to mention make bike run cooler )...I have invested alot in this bike which i love dearly....i beleive i will get the TTS and x pipe on and experiment with differant slip ons untill i get the perfect sound...chit this might get pricey!!!!! i

The CFR's are one of the best sounding mufflers out there, IMO.  But, they are kind of hard to tune...I read that they have come up with a little different design to create a bit more ease in tuning.
