Garage door opener failure
« on: June 24, 2012, 11:34:54 PM »

I have tried all the normal resets.
Unplugged the reciever...soldered the connections... moved the reciever closer and farther away.
Took the fairing off and put die-electric grease on all connections.
I am thinking the transmitter in the fairing has gone south.
There is power to the headlights so I assume there is power to the transmitter.
This has worked for four years and now nothing.
Anyone else have this fail?
I should also include the reciever with the red led light flashes when held but does not stop flashing when I try to sync the motorcycle to it.
Thanks for any help.

I have the same condition on my 06 FLHTCUSE.  The door opener has worked fine since 2006 but stopped working a few weeks ago. The receiver still blinks red and appears to be fine.   Opened the fairing to see if the transmitter had any kind of battery or something but all looked fine.  Then, I noticed a hairline crack in the plastic sealing they use to seal the circuit board.  I don't know if the crack might have let moisture in or what, or if it even has any relation to the problem.  I don't know what else to do but consider replacing it.  The part number on the board no longer appears in the Harley parts list, but I believe has been superceded.  I've also read a few folks have changed over to the Flash2Pass system instead of using the Harley board.  Any thoughts or ideas on what to do next?

If you know someone nearby with the gdo see if you can borrow their receiver.  Mine crapped out last year but fortunately I had a spare so it was easy to determine if the problem was with the receiver or the transmitter.

Same here!  It worked at my old house with a Wayne Dalton lift and when we moved I had to get a commercial lift and talked to the guy who installed it and he said I needed an extra board or something to allow me to add the on to the lift.  It worked the first 3-4 times and one day I closed the door with it and when I came home it would not work.  I bought another receiver and reprogramed it, and it still does not work.  I hit the Hi-Lo switch and see the receiver light blink once and click but nothing on the door.  I called the door guy and he said that he used a paper clip and arced the two wires leading to the lift from the receiver and the door worked.  So he said it must be on the bike.  I can't figure it out and did not really seem to get anywhere with the door guy. So if it is on my bike then why does the light blink once and i hear a click.  Thinking of calling another garage guy.

Try disconnecting the door opener wall switch. HD device will not work with some of them... Usually the ones with motion lights etc. You must use a very basic wall switch/button.

Notbsure why it would work for so long and then stop...  :-*

I tried reprogramming it and the plug-in with the red light just continues to blink when I switch the low/high/low beam.
Since I have the red light and all appears normal in the operation of the plug in, I am going to try a new transmitter under the fairing.
I don't know of any other way to check the transmitter to see if it works.

Take the back off of the receiver. Mine was burnt up. Looked like green smoke. Two components were melted.

Ok finally had some time to look at it today.  Transmitter showed no signs of any problem so I went to the fuses.
15 amp P&A fuse was blown.
Most people would have looked there first...me I like to do things the hard way.
Hope this helps some of you.

Finding a blown fuse may "fix" the problem.......but, is there an underlying issue that caused the fuse to blow?

I don't know but I guess time will tell.  Maybe the fuse just did it's job.
If it happens again I guess it will be time to go hunting.

Mine unit quit working and where I found my issue was at the garage opener itself where the wire that goes from the receiver to the terminals of the garage door opener one was broken off and not making a good connection and after fixing that issue it's now works great.  That wire is like 24 gauge wire and breaks easily.

Hopes this helps...
