Ziggy's Heart transplant
« on: June 25, 2012, 03:18:37 PM »

I had a few miles on my 2009 FLHTCUSE4 and started to hear some stranger then usual normal noises. So I did as I normally do, " I took it to Jim's" (hd-dude @ Metal dragon) :2vrolijk_21:

Jim told me I need Rods !!! I have an extended warranty so I did not hesitate to pursue a new motor, but I didn't want a re-manufactured motor and I didn't even want a crated motor. I want Jim to work his magic and build me a 110 just like Jim built one for Vanimal. :2vrolijk_21: Timken roller bearings, balanced crank, oversize piston and bored sleelves, fueling cam, plate, oil pump, full sac exhaust with 2.0 baffles, etc...

I have been working on this for about a month now, the worst of it is I'm having this done in the middle of riding season. I was OK until about last week, now I gotta ride but have no bike  :bigcry:

 Here are some pictures  :)

Wow good job.at least we know jim will do the best he can to get it right for you. Im not sure but i think im the only one thats not a total fan of the fullsac. Im going to change back to true duals when i find something that i like. You can come up and ride the banana if you need a riding fix for the weekend. Or maybe ride the sesg and see if you really like the fullsac

Congrats on getting it rebuilt while still under warranty. I was going to ask what is wiping out rods like this but there are probably too many factors. Hard riding could be one, lugging it another but guess that could be considered the same. Just looking for a generic idea I guess and not trying to dig too deep into this particular incident. As mentioned, looks like you have a great place to do your repairs.

Looking back at my post here and I was too negative it seems. My intent was in wondering if this is something I'll encounter or if this was a fluke. If it does happen then I might spend the extra fuel to bring it to Jim for repairs. And if I'm in California anyway, I just as well go visit Mike L to upgrade my truck trans.

Anyway, glad this turned out the way it did.

Wow Marty, good thing you caught it in time. Somehow I knew dood would chime in on cleaning LOL. I guess this is why the switch to Hbeam rods when doing the bottom end. Should be a smooooooth runner now. Paula will prolly notice as Karen did on mine, I say this as I didn't notice the previous vibration that she did. :drink: Blue mtns forever my friend.

Rooster,

Any BSR commentary on the bigger motor in regards to smoothness or lack of when comparing to original or hbeam rods in 110 rebuild ?

She said the 131 was smoother than the 110 and even better after the rebuild. I had the low end done the first time around and it held up when the rest went. I really don't know if the rods made any difference as I just made that comment as I noticed those that are redoing the low end seem to switch to Hbeam rods as part of the process :nixweiss:
