1st Leak
« on: June 26, 2012, 07:38:36 PM »

Had the fluids changed in middle of December when exhaust was changed, and really did not start riding till April on my 2009 FXSTSSE3 and in may noticed a drip from the bottom of the primary around the drain bolt and or the 1st allen screw next to it.The book says around 32 ounces in primary and maybe leaked a few or more hopefully. It has about 1000 miles on it since fluids changed.Would it be safe to ride it 55 miles to where it was done and should they do it for free since my gasket was pinched or something?

You shouldn't have a problem with a slow drip--there should be plenty of lube in the primary unless you can see most of it on the floor.  The primary's drain bolt is notorious for leaking; my '95 FLSTF had been doing this for years, so when I started changing the primary oil myself, I simply used Teflon tape to stop the drip.

I keep new o-rings so I can replace them when I change the oil. Never had a leak. The only leak I have ever had was about where you said yours was and it was a small drip. It was a bad seal going from the transmission to th eprimary.
just a thought.
I took it in for the leak on warranty.
