How do your Heat Demons work??
« on: June 26, 2012, 09:02:24 PM »

I put a set of Heat Demons on my 09' SERG, and am very disappointed in how they heat up.  I don't know if mine are faulty, or what is going on.  Anyone else not getting good heat out of their Heat Demons?

Thanks,

Glide Boy

I had put a set on my 02 EGU about 3 weeks before I traded it. Didn't have any issues at all. Good heat. I didn't have the TBW set up though. I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

Have them on my SG.  Like them a lot, but they are very slow to heat up.  After a few minutes, though, they're good.  Never had to set them on the highest temerature setting.

I've heard they heat up slower than the Harley grip warmers, and don't get as hot.  Maybe that's why they seem to be more reliable than the HD grips.

I had nightmares with the Harley heated grips and switched to Heat Demons two years ago. Never had any issues with them and I would recommend them to anyone...  I would say you have an isolated problem. Did you install or did a dealer or other wrench? Have them check if so, if you installed call Heat Demon Support and discuss the problem with them, they'll figure out problem and hopefully will get you a replacement if necessary.  :2vrolijk_21:

The Heat Demons do take longer to heat up, since the heat isn't in the grip itself, but inside the bar.  And they don't get as hot, but the one's on my '06 got plenty hot enough after a few minutes.  Do you have any kind of aftermarket grips on your bike?  That can make a diffrence as well.

Otherwise, you've got a problem and need to contact Heat Demons...there have been rare instances of faulty inserts, or folks damaging them during installation.  But, it's uncommon.

The ones on my Wife's Sporty with Aerilion grips work great. The ones on the traded in "08 Ultra didn't seem as warm, though adequate.

Hope so.  I got my '12 the day after Thanksgiving last year so I had several months of cold weather and used them quite a bit.  They are much, much better that the OEMs on my '07.  Hopefully they will be reliable.

What Terry said.  I find that they take a little longer to heat up and do not get quite as hot as the oem ones on my '12.  But they are very acceptable.  Problem with all the heated grips is that you really need thin gloves to feel the heat.  Thick gloves insulate you from the cold and the heated grips.  Moco needs to make gloves specifically for use with heated grips - thick on the outside and thin on the palm side.  I know it has been suggested to them several times but so far nothing has come of it.

Jerry....take a look at Lee Parks Deer Tour PCI gloves.  http://www.leeparksdesign.com/eshopprod_cat_530-3637_product_148850.DeerSports_PCi_Black.htm  He makes a pair specifically for the purpose you describe.  Fox Creek used to sell them and I have a pair for winter use.  They work as advertised.  But they are pricey as hell...extremely high quality, and made of Deerskin, but pricey.  I have his summer gloves (regular Deer Tours) as well and they are still going strong after all these years.  Nothing beats deerskin for gloves.

Lee Parks also has a great book on "how to ride"...Total Control.  Geared more towards sport bike type riding, but an excellent book.

No problems with my Heat Demons either.  I have PM Renthal grips, which are machined from billet aluminum, with a thin, "grippy" rubber covering.  Since they are aluminum they transfer heat exceptionally well, even in sub-freezing temperatures.  Oh, and they transfer cold well too if you don't have heat in your grips.

Got 'em on the '94 & the '04 and both work very good.  The grips you use need some metal to transfer the heat, other than that, they're well tested and give great service.  (what TC said about the deerskin gloves for use with them also  :2vrolijk_21:)   spyder
