Found my old boat
« on: June 26, 2012, 09:31:13 PM »

Found my old boat on Craigslist it's a 1981 20' Tiara    http://muskegon.craigslist.org/boa/3027806831.html

Tell me what you guys think especially about the price. I went and saw it and it is in great condition but I really can't see where it's worth what he is asking.

LOL I hear you there I also had a little 14' sea nymph when I was a little fella. But I was thinking of this with my family in mind.  A pontoon would be the ideal choice, but this was my old boat.

I think the cost is a lot for a boat that is 30 plus years old. I bought a brand new 1987 Welcraft 19 ft cuddie cabin for $12000 brand new back then. They don't increase in value. Good luck. Sounds like a 5 grander not 10.

Too much, I have been out of boats for about 10 years, but the price on this one although it looks good is too high.

For its age, it has very low hours.  That is a well made boat, and will handle Lake MI well.  I am thinking he is about 2000 to 2500 high on price.

As I recall the minimum thickness on this boat on the fibrglass is 5/8" it is a very well made boat and Lake Michigan or Erie are no problems at all for it.  Just need to get it for the right price.

Good Luck

I love the 8 foot beam too.

I offered $8,00.00 and he said no way.  $10,500.00 is the price. I told him I was not comfortable spending $10,500.  I spoke to my brother inlaw who is an insurance sales person and the boats age does not give it a replacement amount and he said I should have it surveyed to get an appraisal.

NADA in  1981 Tiara 2000 Overnighter w/288:

Original Suggested List Price:  $19,080

Low Retail:  $2,170

Ave Retail:  $2,470

Options: (add options)

Figure $1,000 for a 12 year old trailer

Plus few dollars here and there for covers, etc.

$10,500 is absurd.

BTW, he's running what looks to be a chopper prop which is a solid hub designed for outboards. Very bad, especially with that old One Drive.  He needs a thru hub smaller ~19" Mirage or similar.

I think he bought it for $6,500 or $7,000 and put some money in the lower unit (had it painted) and bearings as well as the throttle cable and I think he wants his money out of it.

He needs to realize boats are like bikes... money pits... you never get out of them what you put in them. :(

Fine looking boat but seems like you could find a newer boat for the same money. Seemed like a lot for a 1981 model. Unless you have a real passion for owing your old boat again.
