117 build dyno sheet
« on: June 27, 2012, 06:10:57 AM »

Had my 110 platform built into a 117, s&s cyls and pistons, stage 2.5 head work(R&R),625 s&s cams, crank balanced,welded,6.2 injectors.I dont feel confident with the results of this build compared to others I have seen on this forum. I dont believe it was tuned properly.I think there is a more to be had with a better tune. Can any of the builders on this site comment. Thanks

Well shaped curve, but as you have pointed out, does seem to be down quite considerably, from an a-typical 117"er.
It is not the cam.
What compression, and what do those heads flow?
What t/body?

Living close by you & R&R and facing a rebuild in the near future I followed your build closely.  When you say you are not confident are you describing dependability in the build or the end results concerning performance.  I like the guys at R&R but Jr. has always told me he wouldn't touch the 110 without making numerous changes which included just about everything.  I'm not disagreeing with him in anyway but I just went with what info he gave me at the time.  Are the S&S cylinders a source of concern as I know most builds on this site have used the Axtell's?  Hope you get things sorted out so you are happy with your investment.

I would be concerned that your top end fuel is reaching near 15 to 1.   OMG that would scare me to badly if that is the final dyno.   This is terribly lean for WOT runs.    When you add some fuel and maybe some timing the numbers may come up.   From 3600 up i would be terribly nervous   :nervous:    :nervous:    :nervous:

Some things I would do is first do a compression test if they arent easy start cams from S&S.   I would do a leak down test to ensure that everything is seated and good.

Do you know what the cylinder to wall was supposed to be set to?
How many CC's the chambers were?
How far down your pistons were in the hole if at all?
What piston was used and what its displacement was?

All of these will help you verify what the cranking compression should be on the build.

One other question before they pulled this wide open run, how long did they let your bike sit?   these tires can get pretty hot and sticky from pull after pull.   You might want them to do this pull on the dyno AFTER The tire has cooled and is not so sticky.   This will also hurt your numbers.

Scott, comp is 11/1.Heads are stage 2.5.Dont know what they flow.Throttle body is stock.
RayG not unhappy with the build, goes like a scalded dog just think there is more to be had with a good tune.
Unbalanced, Thought the compression was 11.5/1 my mistake. Not sure about the other questions.I will find out.

Either the OE t/body, or the cylinder head, is the choke point.

you didnt get a flow chart with the heads? the stock T.body could be holding it back a bit,but it would be nice to have some flow#`s before macking changes

You can't expect much more using the stock TB and SE slipon mufflers. If you are chasing hp you should have put on the stg 4 heads, 62mm TB, and a good pipe.

I don't think your numbers are that bad, but as other suggest, I agree, get it tuned. Its way too lean above 3500 rpm and only gets leaner!! Shouldn't leaner than 13.5 max at WOT, IMO  FWIW  twinotter

Get that tune fixed first. There's plenty more in there.

Digga25, I also went to 117ci low compression, with Axtel cyl's, T-Manns 625cam and stage 2 CVO heads, welded/balanced crank, bla bla bla, I used the stock TB and injectors. Got 117hp/130ftlbs. But my compression is about 10 to 1. Get your tune checked. let us know what happens

Should be some tuners around in your area, that could brush that up some.

Man looking at that dyno sheet wide open 15.1 plus is way lean suprised your not pinging up there.
A good 117 with 10.5.1 static should put out 129/135 hp easy.

I would think your afr target would like this
