Air deflectors under the handlebars
« on: July 01, 2012, 10:09:16 PM »

Sorry if this has already been asked, and it's probably a stupid question, but hell y'all wouldn't be the first or last to tell me that :)

The air deflectors that mount on the engine guard under the handlebars, do they serve any real purpose?  I'm about to take a SERIOUSLY hot trip from Florida to Houston and back, and just wanted to be sure.

TIA

Jeff

If it's raining, it will help keep you a bit dryer...  And it reduces the wind that hits you in the face a bit.    I expect it also reduces the air flow to your motor a bit also...

I don't really see it as having any overwhelming pro's or con's...

Well the reduction of air to the motor was what I was thinking also.  When it's cold...great..when it's hot...I want as much air as possible going across that engine.

Thanks!

Just remember, that same air will hit you after it hits the engine!   :)

i have one on my sesg3. I think it does help with wind, and makes it a more comfortable ride at  higher speeds.. Im leaving it on..  Looks to me that it deflects wind toward  the motor..  Im leaving it there :nixweiss:

Mounts down under by the triple tree.  2 small 1/4" bolts hold it in place.  Theres only one place it can go.

It may be this. i have noticed that not all of the bikes come with them.

They are above the engine so I do not think it has any effect on the air going to the engine.
Just a thought
