One of the guys I ride with installed the Harley air horn.  It's fairly loud, but IMO, it's u-g-l-y.  I installed the Stebel Mini Air horn...Compressor under the seat, and horn behind the stock horn cover.  Works great...it's a bit higher pitch than the Harly horn, and it is extremely loud.  I am extremely satisfied with it...the first day out had a car pull out in front of me, laid down on the horn and they ran off the road into the ditch!  I laughed all the way home.  Read all four pages of the installation details here: http://flhrsei.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1149746749 You can buy the horn and all of the other incidental parts need for about $60.00.  Got my horn from Ebay and the other parts needed from Advance Auto Parts.  Easy install.

I purchased one from BJ's Horns @ Myrlt beach Bike Week last year.  The compresser mounts under the seat so it's not ugly like the one from Harley.  I'm sure Harley will come out with one eventually.

Beauty must be in the eye of the beholder. I bought and installed it.  Doesn't look bad so long as you do not use the black air hose that comes with it.  Shakes like a sob when idling .  Sounds much better than stock but not as good as after market horns discussed.  If I had to do it again,  I would go with aftermarket horn.

I went with the Stebel compact air horn. The horns fit very snug in the stock cow bell, and the compressor even bolted to the hole that harley put in the battary box area under the seat. Looks stock but, very loud. I give it a thumbs up. Tanks Twolaner for the tip.

Thanks Don.  I've been pleased with mine so far too.  Even though you should expect it I guess I was surprised initially that it sounds in every way like an air horn.  So people around you think the sound has to be coming from something BIG when you lay on it.  Have need to use mine in anger twice since the installation.  Both times the turds that were too close heard it and got the hell out of the way.  That would never happened with the timid little stock horn.

Does the Stebel compact air horn have a part # for the HDs or is there only one? I'm looking and from the descriptions posted above, sounds interesting especially for those folks who want it to look inconspicuous.

How much do they cost and where's a good place to order?

The Stebel horn is a generic piece.  Nothing specific to Harley.  Review that thread that is linked in one of the posts above here and you'll see that to install it you need to do a few minutes disassembly and destruction of the horn before making it friendly with the motorcycle.

It works fine.  It's actually a pretty simple little installation.  But it's not a bolt-on.  It's also cheap.  So you're not too worried about doing what you need to to the horn to get it on the bike.  Complete package compressor and all was less than $40.00.  Here is one vendor.  Others may be cheaper.  Shop a bit and you might get lucky.

That was old. Not surprised the link is dead.  Here's a current link to the Stebel horn for sale at Amazon.com:

Here's a link to a thread showing what has to be done to the horn to put it to use:

I installed the HD air horn on a Road King a few years ago.  It was just ok, not great.  Since I just upgraded my scooters fleet with a 07 SERK, I had to do something about the horn again since the OEM horn sounds like a scooter....  So, I decided to do somthing different and installed a second horn.  I installed it on the rear sadlle bag bracket.  I used a standard automotive relay to provide the power from the battery.  The second horn came from a Dyna and I believe it has a different frequency (tone) than a Road King.

Total cost of about $30 plus the horn and a little home made bracket.

The result is....... FANTASTIC.   The SERK sounds like a truck!!! and the cagers can hear me now!

I am a very happy camper  :orange:
