4" Rineharts vs Fulsac cores
« on: July 05, 2012, 03:50:32 PM »

I have the 1.25" Fulsac cores on my '12 CVO SG.  For the most part I am satisfied with them.  I ran 3.5" Rineharts on a '08 EG which I loved.  So the 4" Rineharts have been in my head now since reading and seeing some pics of them on a '12 CVO SG.  Can anyone tell me from experience what you think of the 4" Rineharts compared to the Fulsac cores?  Sound and performance?  I know sound is subjective but just your opinion.  I haven't really heard the 4" Rineharts to my knowledge and I know they are suppose to sound different compared to the 3.5".  I think I like the looks better of the Rineharts from the photo I saw compared to the stock cans.  And I've always like the looks of the stock cans and tips.

Thanks

My opinion, i bought the 2 inch cores installed them without changing the headers and found they weren't loud enough for me.  It was recommended on this site and even full sac to remove the wrap, some say it sound tinny.  I removed mine and is completly satisified.  I personally was going to order 4 inch Rineharts until i removed the padding but after hearing my pipes and 4 inch Rineharts on a 2011 cvo streetglide I am glad I didn't change them. I think if I did the headers on my bike with Full sacs I may reinstall some pavking and I think it would be perfect.

So what is your opinion on the 4" Rinehart sound compared to your 2" Fullsac cores?  Why are you glad that you didn't change them?

There is not enough difference to warrant the cost.

I have the 2012 CVO Road Glide with X-pipe and TTS tuner.   I ran Rinehart 4" inch mufflers (in black) initially with this set up.  I really liked the Rineharts and the bike ran good.   A little on the loud side, i.e., I felt I needed to ease the bike out of the neighborhood.

The black finish didn't work out as well as I had hoped on the "skunk," so I got the Fullsac 2-inch baffles and re- installed the stock cans.  I removed the insulation material in the stock cans.  No need to change the tuning map.  Result was the bike seems to have a little more torque, runs great.   The sound is a little quieter, maybe ten percent. Very nice lope at idle, and plenty of volume with throttle.  Happy with set up and the Rineharts are sitting in a box.

Incidently, I have a 2009 non CVO Street Glide with 3.5 inch Rineharts.  Also happy with this set up.  This bike runs about 10 percent quieter than my CVO with 2 inch cores.

Hope that helps.

I disagree with the statement there is little difference.

My bike came with what I was told were 2.25" Fullsac (but I suspect were 2" baffles). They sounded nice, but were a little mellow for me.

I switched to the 4" Rineharts, and there was a very noticable sound difference- at least 30% louder at idle...the Rineharts sound plain mean and deep at idle, whereas the Fullsacs were a more polite version of that.

I think at idle is the biggest difference to me. At acceleration and WOT, both sound very good with of course the Rineharts being louder. At cruise, you know they are there, but they aren't overbearing. I like pipes a bit louder that most, but I wouldn't want any louder than these Rineharts.

If you liked your old 3.5 Rineharts, you will love the 4"- much deeper, better quality sound.

The OP didn't say if he has the cat head pipe, which obviously makes a huge difference. I of course, don't.

I think the ones saying there is little difference also have the cat in the headpipe.

I am the OP.  I do not have the cat head pipe.  Replaced with a Fuel Moto head pipe.  So to update, I was surprised to see a 2012 FLHXSE3 at a friends house this past weekend with 4" Rineharts.  The owner of the bike gladly let me listen to his bike.  My conclusion was, yes the beautiful Rinehart tone was there but it was louder than what I like.  Quite a bit louder actually.  So I am now content with my Fullsac 1.25" core setup.  My setup is the right side baffle has no wrapping and the left side has minimal wrapping.  I don't find it tinny sounding either.  I've had one long trip with this setup and found the sound not overbearing after hours in the saddle.

Now about those handlebars...Mmmmm??
