Heat Demon's For Sale Won't Fit with 575's
« on: July 09, 2012, 03:05:41 PM »

Well, some people on here said they would fit and some said that they wouldn't.  The manufacture's warning is correct "They Will Not Fit".  I really didn't want to start grinding away on a brand new set of bars, so I thought I could squeeze them in.  There is just not enough room unless the bars are honed.  I will be listing them in "Selling".

Any chance you took a photo to see how they're not mating up.  Only reason I ask is I put a set of Heat Demons in a set of 575 Wild 1 handlebars just a couple months ago.  No problem with that set of parts.

I doubt they would have worked for me either. I had to apply a light coat of grease just to get the Twist Grip Sensor into the end of my 575's 6 wks ago.

Did you use the 1" or the 1 1/4 set for yours, I was going to give them a try but have not as yet. I also have the 575 bars.

The bars?  Standard 1.25" Wild 1 bars.

The bars are the standard 1.25" 575 bars.  The throttle by wire was even tight to get in.

The problem is probably due to the heat and humidity up there in Northwest Missouri, bring you bike down here to the southern part of the state.  Between the higher altitude, colder beer, and larger hammers, we can make them fit.   :huepfenlol2:

I'm definitely ready for higher altitude and Colder Beer!  I am sick of this hot dry weather and watching my crops burn clear the hell up!!

Got the 575's on last night.  Took the bike for a spin and noticed my cruise control set button doesn't push in like I thought it use to and the cruise doesn't work.  Doesn't the cruise button push in the same distance as the channel changing button?  if not, then it's one my connections in the Deutsch connector.  Next problem, the throttle by wire now turns pretty hard.  I'm thinking that when I was trying to put the heat demon's in, I bent or dented the throttle by wire housing, which is now making it turn hard.  I'm not exactly sure how they are made inside but just guessing it is a cylinder moving inside a cylinder, any info would be helpful.  Now I have to tear everything back apart to remove the bars to cure the problems.

I just thought of another question.  Is there a way to adjust the throttle by wire tension to decrease the amount of effort it takes to turn it?

Maybe not (have to tear it all back apart).

For the "turn hard" problem try loosening the switch housing and clamp.  With all the pieces loose try the feel again.  The right grip can get too tight in the housing.  Needs to go together with all the pieces loose from each other.

The cruise button (I think this is right) doesn't push in.  It rocks side to side.  So you might just have a pin wrong there.  Also, if you're throwing a code for the twist grip sensor not working right (because it's binding up?) the heirarchy of the system will keep the cruise from working until the cause of the twist grip sensor's code is fixed.

This is probably a stupid question, but where do I look to see if I'm throwing a code?  Next question, I think I'll have to pull the bars off to push and pull the wires back thru enough to get the TBW cylinder out.  Is that what you are talking about twolane?

Is the check engine light on?  If you're throwing a code it will be.

The grip sensor is that "cylinder" you're talking about.  If the right grip is simply clamped down a bit by the switch housing (very possible) the sensor itself won't half to come out again.  Will just have to loosen the swith housing off a bit and make sure it's all got a little wiggle to it.

This may or may not be your problem.  But it's certainly the easiest (and free$$!!) thing to try so might as well give it a shot first.

I'd suggest when dealing with the throttle grip sensor that beating or forcing it in is probably not a good installation method.  If it has to be greased up and forced in, it would make a lot more sense to clean up the interior of the bar so that the sensor will slip in just like it does in the stock bars.  I wouldn't imagine it would take all that much work with a reamer or even a sandpaper roll.  Forcing it in may cause distortion, binding and/or early failure.

Has anyone notified the Chubbie's folks about the issues with the interior dimensions of their bars?  Seems like it would be very easy for them to take care of the problem in manufacturing if they know about it.  Bars made for the ETC bikes should come with the opening for the sensor already properly sized for that sensor.  If they don't, I'd consider that a manufacturing defect.
