Not have installed one of these in the past, I tried to make sense of the instructions, installing near the same place as the original but on the opposite side. I thought the instructions could be much better. The measurement of 3/4" below, I also wasn't sure where to start from so I used the edge of the TP. I see in Rob's photo it looks 3/4" below the body line. I notched the hinge stop allowing the TP lid to open more, wish I knew more before I drilled, like I do now. The directions also make no reference to where to mount to the lid. The upper mount I guess I could have moved closer to the hinge as well. Nice pictures Rob.

The video they have pretty much takes the guesswork out of it.

Rob. I'm level as can be.   I measured 5 times.  Drilled once.    Well 8.    I'm thinking the rivets won't  loosen up or vibrate off.   Faster than the screws too.

Question to those who have installed...
The directions say to cut away the TP liner around the brace mount.  I chose not to, because it doesn't seem to get in the way too much.  I did notice that as the lid gets close to being closed, the brace pushes away from the liner slightly as it brushes against the liner.  Anyone think that this could cause a problem?

Yep the video would have made installation much easier than trying to figure out the directions. I did not even know there was a lock open feature. Cool, the next one I install will be better... ;)

Just for that, I'm never getting rivets! I won't have it long enough for that to happen anyway!  :P  :drink:

Decided to order one and installed it today. I read the instructions thoroughly a couple of times and it started to make sense after the 2nd time. The pics they include in the instructions are fuzzy but still somewhat helpful. In reading the instructions you have to pay close attention to every word. It is very precise and accurate.

I did not cut away my liner. It's fine

I used the included hardware but will probably change it out to rivets if they start to vibrate off

This is a great addition for the tour pak. Now it opens straight up and is very solid. Highly recommend this product. Not a great pic as this is in a warehouse with bad lighting and taken with my cell. But you get the idea

Did mine with screws the other night...threw the allen key and a little wrench in the map pocket so if it ever loosens up, I'll have the right tools handy. It works great...very stable.

I thought about this exact same thing when I first saw the retractable tether~'Said to self; "These could cause problems, the stock cable works fine"
