Hmmm....thinking????
« on: July 11, 2012, 07:54:41 PM »

Hi all...long time since my last post.  Been reading just not posting.

Still enjoying my CVO deuce but lately I have been getting the itch for a Street Glide. I am thinking about getting a non CVO Street Glide?  Kind of looking for some opinions on this from everyone here. I am kind of torn, I have said I will never sell my deuce but when my wife rides with me it isn't comfotable at all for her.  I honestly think that I want something bigger too. I am tired of not having anywhere to put anything.  I don't do much traveling and the Deuce is great for going Solo but even that can be a hassle if you want to carry anything with you. I have a small bag on the front and that is it. In this point in my life although I could, I can't justify having two bikes. I like the CVO Street Glide but more than likely will buy a used one if the right one came along. I have looked at a couple of 2012's but not sure if I want to let the dealer have my Deuce for 10-11k which isn't terrible.

What do you guys think would be a good price on a Street Glide CVO or not and what do you think a good trade would be for my Deuce?  She has just rolled 10k on it and almost flawless.

Thanks in advance for your replies! (you can feel free to talk me in to keeping my deuce it's paid for)

Hey There!

I would only reccomend a private sale and purchase, leave the steeler out of it if you can $$$, i sold my 06 street glide on craigs list in just two weeks and found my 2010 sesg "tequila sunrise"  on Ebay in MS from original owner with 2600 miles on it for $26k I thought it was a heck of a deal!!

Jim, I hear you on the private sale. I just don't have time to fool with selling mine...have a 2 and a 4 year old...and I run a business with two office. Maybe I should put it for sale locally...but I don't mind paying a little more for the dealer.

You did get a great deal and a great bike!

Get the bike that started the Street Glide hysteria, 2004 or 2005 FLHTCSE-2. You can find them with very low miles with great prices,12-19K.
The 2005 would be my choice as they had tour paks, opening lowers, and passenger back rest. Now you have 2 Eagles for less $$$. The 2004
Colbalt Blue would look fantastic next to your current bike though!

I have an 2009 non-CVO Street Glide, 96 cubic inch, no motor mods other than Stage One (tuner, Rineharts), 15k miles.  Wasn't ready to give it up when I (suddenly) got a '12 CVO Road Glide last August.

Could go on and on about the Street Glide, or either bike.  Love the bat wing, the stereo, the Progressive shocks, the sound of the Rineharts, how the bike just fits like favorite jeans.  I like how the bike is understated in appearance.  It is versatile on trips.  This winter I dressed the Street Glide up some as it was looking a little ordinary next to the CVO.   I added chrome forks, an LED headlight, and H-D Roulette wheels in black ice.   Not as fast as the CVO, don't care, love to ride either bike!

I would look for a 2009 or later, having the newer frame.  You should be able to find one in the $16K range.  Or since its getting late in the model year, you might be surprised how much the dealers may discount a new one.  Lots of Street Glides out there, I think for good reason.

Good luck with your decisions.

Keep the CVO, for now. How about rent or borrow or test ride a regular Street Glide with your wife and see how it feels. Personally I would stay with a 2009 or newer Street Glide whether it was a CVO or just regular production. I would only trade in a CVO for a CVO but thats just me.

So what kind of discounted price on a new one?  The first two quotes I got are in the $21,xxx ball park. Now I admit I haven't even started to negotiate.

Guys getting some great feedback here. I would love to look for another bike to add to my stable but I am in my 30's I will have loads of time to get more toys once my kids are grown!  Maybe I will try out one but borrowing another mans bike is like borrowing another mans underwear.  ;D  :huepfenjump3:

Last August, as a favor to a friend, we went to my H-D dealer and "looked around."  Friend ended up with a new 2011 Road Glide 103 c.i., the motor company had discounted all of the 2011's by $1000 as the 2012's were out.  Friend also got $500 in accessories.  Was so happy for friend, I placed a deposit on a CVO before going out the door.
Your deal will depend greatly on how many bikes are sitting around at year end.  You are not going to steal it, that's the stealer's job. :2vrolijk_21:

I understand the whole ridin another mans bike deal but, you can always go to a dealer for a test ride when demo days come to your local dealer

:) I know was kind of kidding around a little. Anyway I am just going to keep my eye out. I have seen some great deals on eBay but don't know if I want to go through the headache of selling mine.

So went and looked a 2012 Street Glide Sunday. I don't know...I really liked it but I just feel that there are some things I will miss about my Deuce?  Either way made it easy since they didn't have a black one anyway.

I think one of the biggest things I would miss other than all of the extra chrome is the hydraulic clutch...I guess. It just seems like unless I find a sweet preowned CVO Street Glide I may not be happy. Just going to keep ridding my Deuce and looking for now. 8)

My dealer is a good guy. He just bought my 12 SG CVO for himself and is going to sell his 10 SG CVO. Probably would make you a decent trade and I'll bet his is like new.
