Why aren't CVO colors offered for catalog items
« on: July 21, 2012, 05:32:35 AM »

Can anybody tell me why CVO colors aren't offered when ordering items such as color matched inner fairing, fairing lowers or saddle bag lids with speakers?  We spend $30,000+ dollars on a custom motorcycle and when they come out with a new add on you'd like you have to find a person to paint it for you.  You'd think the MoCo would realize the profit they're missing out on by doing this, but I guess that's how they lure us into spending another $30 grand for a new bike.   :soapbox: I've read in other threads about how people have to forfeit their painted and CVO specific pieces to the stealer when damaged and being replaced for what ever reasons.  If you own the bike and are paying for the the replacement pieces where do they get the right to demand your old skins and parts.  I don't ever remember signing anything stating to the effect if any part of my bike is ever replaced due to damage, etc. I will forfeit it back to the company.   :soapbox: I could see the insurance company doing this if they are payiing for the replacement part.  Just my .02

Not understanding what you are saying? I have never had a problem getting CVO color matched pieces. I have ordered a fairing, lids and tour pack for my 2010 CVO Street Glide. They are listed in the book.

The numbers for CVO colored parts are listed in separate model specific parts catalogs...not in the large Motor Parts & Accessories catalog, or on the H-D website.

Some parts are in fact offered in CVO colors, for instance if you're looking for a Tour-Pak for a SESG or SERG you can find them listed in the Color Shop section of the catalog for your specific model.  Some parts, however, haven't made it to the catalog.  I remembered looking for a painted inner fairing for someone early this year and was unable to come up with the color he needed.  Fortunately, with something like an inner fairing that is a single solid color with no graphics, it's pretty easy to get those painted locally.  A lot of painters can very closely match a single color even without the official color codes from H-D.

As for the idea of having to turn in old parts for the dealer to order replacements, that only applies to warranty replacements.  We recently had this discussion on another thread.  If you have a damaged fender for instance, all you have to prove is that you own the specific bike for which you are ordering the part (VIN).  They can't force you to give them the old part if it's an insurance repair or just you replacing the damaged part on your own.  Some dealers may try that BS on you, but most will not.  If you need to order a legitimate replacement part due to damage or theft and some dealer tries to jerk you around, find another dealer.

Take the 2nd half of your paint code and enter into a site with online parts look up or one of the available PDF HD parts catalog
Every painted piece for your bike will show up.

One of the items I can find with my 05BSC paint code is 58606-05BSC, the saddlebag spoiler kit.
