Primary fluid level

Is it correct to fill the primary fluid to the bottom of the derby cover opening?  On side stand or standing straight upright?

not so sure about that. the older style primarys with the inspection cover took 32oz filling to bottom of clutch basket. then newer ones take 38 oz. ive never heard of filling it to the bottom of the derby cover??? :orange: :bananarock:

Unless the bottom of the clutch inspection cover opening is now the same height as the bottom edge of the clutch spring, I don't think you want to keep filling until the oil runs out of the opening.  Excess oil will cause the clutch to drag; you only want the level to barely touch the bottom edge of the clutch spring with the bike sitting level.  Since the new style primary doesn't drain as easily and completely as the old style did, it's a good idea to actually check the level visually instead of just dumping 38 ounces in the hole and assuming it's correct.  When in doubt, slightly low is better than high.

Van
I missed the part about "to the bottom of the primary cover.  Yes that would definitely be too much.

If you do not measure it, then fill it upright, to the bottom of the clutch basket.
